: Universal Joints - what's better?

I've read all about the CTM's, but they aren't in my price range today, nor are they necessary. My question relates to the three choices my local parts store gives me. A brute Force type that's greased for life with a synthetic lithium grease, a standard u-joint, and one that can be greased through the bearing caps.

Which is better and why? I plan on 50% road driving, 50% mud and trails driving. I'll be using the 1310 series and this is for my driveshafts (although I think my axle runs the same series).

well for starters, the CTM is used for the d44 and d60 axle shafts...not driveshafts...the 1310 series is for d-shafts and the 297 is for a d44...differnet...for a driveshaft i buy the cheapy ones so that they break before my d-shaft breaks...now for axle shafts, you want to get the best ones you can get..ones with out the greese zert..so that it is stronger...

good luck

Yea, what he said. I bought one Cheapco(Neapco) joint for my drive shaft and it was shot in under 6 mos (like 4 or 5 wheelin' trips). Turns out the damned thing wasn't even drilled to let grease out to the needle bearings...WTF?

i dont know what you guys think about it but i like running the bute force joints... seem to be a fart in the wind stronger then the regular off the shelf guys (plus with the warrantee i keep getting free ones when i need them)

but what my real point is.... what i normaly do when i get the bruite force joints is. i take them all apart clean all taht stuff they pack in there out and repack it with heavy duity grease. ive found they feel a lil better in my hands with that grease then the junkx they put in them.

may not be worth the time but tahts waht i do... hey just another excuse to play with the grease gun.:p

oh are stock TJ driveshaft ujoints 1310?
