how much would it cost me to have a ford HP 60 front narrowed to 64" WMS?

i just bought a D70 rear thats that width and it would be nice to have the same width front and rear.

or maybe i could use dually front spacers to run the rear out to 69" WMS?

input?

thanks

Here is what mine is costing me:

Narrowing and putting the diff on the pass side $600

New inner axles: Best price so far $350

I did find a guy who was a good bit lower to narrow but he mentioned using .25 tubing and setting one side to 2º and the other to 2.5º to account for the crown in the road:rolleyes: ...anyway, figured the guy didn't know WTF he was doing and decided on another guy here locally.

any idea what kind of local shop i should be looking for that could cut 2" off each side of the 60?

An axle shop...find someone who has done this before...If you can't, ship the housing to someone who can do this. Wagoner Machine comes to mind.

You want your front axle to be a couple of inches wider than your rear for it to track correctly. Before anyone chimes in, I know you can run your front and rear axles the same or even your rear a litle wider, but ideally you want your front to be wider. I suggest Cutting the housing yourself, or at least partially. Strip it down , take it to someone who has a band saw, and have them cut the inner knuckle off. Measure how much is in the inner knuckle, and have them cut the rest off the end of the tube. Then grind the weld away(much easier to gind a flat surface) and press the remaining tube out of the knuckle. You may have to use a torch or a hacksaw to make a couple of cuts in the tube to get it out of the knuckle. Slide it back on, set your caster and take it back to the machine shop and have them weld it up. Then send your shafts to dutchman and have the long side inner reduced accordingly(appx $100). Even If you have a chop saw, I would still suggest having the tube cut with a bandsaw, that is not an easy cut with a chopsaw. If you have a welder and feel you are competent, weld it up yourself. It is not that difficult. to narrow the housing yourself, I say go for it.

Agreed, I did mine exactly the same...band saw, relief cuts with a torch, and press out the old tube. Put knuckles back on the tube, then weld them with the correct caster.

Moser in Indiana charged me $50 per side to narrow, $50 to respline. I dropped it off on the way to some friends and had them ship it back. I think shipping was $60. I had this done 5 years ago so the prices may have changed.

Depend on the year the axle was made if you can respline it.

Ford '86 and newer
Chevy '80? and newer
I don't think you can respline the Dodge shafts. The ones I've taken apart have the smaller diameter shaft the full length.
