I have a 1971 chevy truck and want to put a affordable fuel injection TBI system on it. The instructions say that a return fuel line is required with the electronic fuel pump. I don't want to buy a different tank with a return, so how do i go about converting by stock, behind the seat, fuel tank to accept a return line.
Thanks
Tom

Summit sells AN style bulkhead fittings. You'll need to drain the tank (obviously), drill a hole in a flat are, preferably near the bottom. Then install the bulkhead fitting and run your line to it. If you can't mount it near the bottom then you may have to get a bulkhead fitting that has hose connections on both sides, so that you can run the return down to the bottom of the tank on the inside.

We brought a return line up thought the floor gromett, to a rubber line for flex, and welded stub into the sender unit plate. We would have liked to do a bulkhead street L fitting for clearance, but couldn't find anything locally in our time frame.

Some tanks have extra lines comming out of them. Not sure what they were for ( vent or epa?) , but the 71 1/2 ton had it on the passenger side of the tank where the 69 3/4 ton ( and I think the 72 3/4 ton tank ) we were doing the projection didn't.

You might get more answers here, http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/, but I hadn't been there in a while.

It's a return line. Why does it need to have a line to the bottom? I think return lines usually are plumbed into the top of the tank.

When I put a return line in my RCI fuel cell I was told by someone at summit the fuel needed to return at the bottom. Something about if it returns from the top it could build up static electricity while traveling through the air. I've heard this from one other person. I figure might as well, the fire is not worth taking the chance on proving them wrong.
