I've got a 1994 6.5TD suburban and the AC compressor locked up a while ago. It would only lock when the AC was turned on. So I drove with the AC off until I got money to replace the whole compressor and clutch.

I replaced the compressor and thought that I could just have the lines vacuumed out and recharged with frion. Do I need to replace the evaporator or anything else in the system?

I have heard of possible junk getting down into the lines when the compressor freezes..but it could turn when the AC wasn't on. Given, it wouldn't turn very easily...but it would still turn. If anyone could tell me what else I need I would really appreciate it. Going out of town next week and trying to get this done.

TIA
Matt

After a compressor goes to hell and sends trash into the system you usually only need to replace the orifice tube. The orifice tube is the expansion valve in accumulator type A/C system and also works as a filter. It is located on the outlet side of the condenser on the front right inner fender. Orifice tubes are cheap….like $5

Get an new reciever/dryer and an orifice tube. Flush the entire system, use new O rings, add the correct ammount of PAG oil, hook up the vacuum pump wait a hour or so and check for leaks. If all is well add freon and chill out.

Depending where you got the compressor, they won't warranty it out when it breaks again if you don't go ahead and replace the dryer/condenser/orifice tube...

my rebuilt a/c broke... fixed itself.... broke again... and has now fixed itself again... good luck to ya
