welp, I am rebuilding this 79 furd axle so i can put it into my truck next weekend but i cant get the damn races out of the hub...

as far as i understand it on these you remove the oil seal then the rear bearing will fall out and the front bearing comes out when you remove the lockouts? I pulled the hubs off 4 months ago and cannot remember but i know when i pulled the seal off tonight only 1 bearing came out and it was the rearward one...

the races come out of the back of the hub and you just pound them out? are there any tricks or snaprings that i am missing?

thanks
chris

edit...and what makes it even more difficult is i am doing it in my apartment with my g/f bitching at me for getting grease all over the carpet :shaking:

use a good punch(on the races, not girlfriend) use safety glasses(maybe not if you don't care about seeing things)vise grips to hold punch.pretend you are at chuck e. cheese beating up those little groundhogs.Repeat for other side.

Do the races NEED replacing? If yes and you want it easier(read:less nagging at you) take it to the local metal worker or welder and have them mig a bead around the inside of the race, this gives you a step to beat on with the punch and the bead slightly shrinks the od of the race and helps it work itself out while you btf out of it.

Now go clean the carpet
