I installed LED taillights in my '88 Jeep and now the turn signals do not work. They worked with the old taillights and now when they're on they just stay on, they don't flash. I'm going to get a new flasher for it and I know to stay away from the heavy duty ones because of the low draw of the LED lights. Just wondering if anyone else had worked through a similar problem?

OK I was looking on the Toyota board and they are running electronic flashers on theirs. Does anyone know if this will fix this on a Jeep and if so, does an electronic flasher plug in in place of my stock one?

The flasher relay is the problem. The relay inside has a strip of bimental that heats up, breaks the connection, cools, then makes the connection again, to make the blink.
The LED lights don't draw enough power to make the bimetal strip heat up, so you have to replace it with an electronic or solid-state flasher.
I don't know specifically where one might be had, though I see lots of ads for them from the places that sell custom LEd lights in magazines such as Street Rodder and others.
And yes, you can buy them as plug-in direct replacements.

I have the solution for you. Did the LED's on my 2000. I need to go pull out a light . there is a 'thingy' that you need to buy from Radio Shack. Cost is about $3-4.

How about a ceramic resistor?

You can also put a regular light bulb on the same circuit. Just hide it somewhere and paint it black. I had to do this on my Buell.

electronic flasher, costs a whole $6 at autozone, use this to replace the stock turn signal flasher, not the hazard flasher.

The electronic flasher did the trick. I went to the parts store and found an electronic flasher that matched the plug of my old flasher and installed it--problem solved. Thanks for the info.
