I installed LED taillights in my '88 Jeep and now the turn signals do not work. They worked with the old taillights and now when they're on they just stay on, they don't flash. I'm going to get a new flasher for it and I know to stay away from the heavy duty ones because of the low draw of the LED lights. Just wondering if anyone else had worked through a similar problem?
(totally from one conversation I had with a friend a long time ago, so it might not be dead on)
The LEDs don't draw enough current to trip the flasher. You need to add a resistor inline with them. I have no idea what size resistor.

a guy at work just had the same prob on his nissan patrol, evidently led lights take a special flasher unit.
i think that napa should be able to help you get the right one.

OK I was looking on the Toyota board and they are running electronic flashers on theirs. Does anyone know if this will fix this on a Jeep and if so, does an electronic flasher plug in in place of my stock one? One guy said the resistor thing would have to be wired in parallel, and if I can plug in a new flasher that would be way quicker.

yes you should be able to get a new plug in flasher.
it isn't a jeep thing or a toyota thing,it is an LED thing.

i've had LED's on my YJ for the past 2 years
what i did is i went to an autoparts store and got a flasher for the hazard lights, then threw away the stock flasher put this one inplace of the stock one and it blinks just right and does not drain anything..has held up great

I used a 20 amp 8 ohm resistor inline when I did mine and everything worked. A guy on JU just posted doing something similar.

Go to Radio Shack. Part number is something like 20W8 - J. Did the LED's on my TJ and you need this or they blink REALLY fast.

on the cj and yj's you can put in a flasher for towing in there OR you can put a resister in the wiring. i have the diagrams for wiring the resister in, email me if you want them. thats waht i ended up doing because you cant get a flasher that will work for a TJ unless you modified a specific flasher (didnt feel like fawkin with that)
im runnin a pair of 60 series ovals on each side they work GREAT!!!!

I have LEDs on my 99 TJ. They flashed real fast. A electronic heavy duty flasher from Pep Boys solved the problem. It plugged right in no splicing, no problem.

did the same thing, get an electronic flasher from autozone ($6) and stick it in place of the turn signal flasher, not the hazards, another problem I had, and you'll be cured.

Thanks for the info. The electronic flasher did the trick--problem solved. I found one that matched the plug on my original one and done.
