how much can a inline 6 be bored out

got a stupid but pretty cool ideah today

i want to take a fuel injected inline six, bore it out.( not sure how much one could be brought over stock bore.)

get strong internals, pistons, rods, rockers, cam,

headers intake manfold, good heads wit a valve job, intake manifold, not sure if they make a aftermarket one.

then slap a turbo off some time of diesel, bigger injectors,


another stupid question, say i got a inline bored .030, .060, .080 or .30,.60,.80 over not sure wich is the right number decimal shit, i am tired as shit so bear wit me. what does that turn into cubic inches and liters

in other words, a stock inline six 300 is 300 cubic inches and 4.9 liter, what would be the new cubic inch and liter numbers wit it bored out, is there some tipe of formula,

there is a lot of stuff still kickin around my mind, like what turbo, off what, timing, advance or retarded igntion and shit like that, i aint too sure of what the aftermarket for inline sixes are like.

on another note, does anyone make a roots blower or a supercharger for these type of engines, stupid question but just curios. thanks a lot.

Usually boring out a engine gives you around 5 Cubic Inches. Note enough to gain you any noticiable horsepower. I hate it when i talk to people and they say its a 350 and its bored 30 over like it is something. You take the same engine bored and not bored you wouldn't notice any difference. Turbo wouldn't be that hard to fab up

find a builder that has some good knowledge on these motors a good friend of mine built one of these motors with another guy years ago . dont quote me on the parts this is just to give an idea , but they put like 302 rods 460 pistons bored ported stroked , it had a 4 barrel carb and headres and cam, it was a sick motor for a six.

I think eddelbrock makes a headder and alluminum 4 barrel intek This is a thing i have wonted to do for a while also,,A 460 stock has a 4.36 inch bore but i dunno what a 300 6 has for a bore but it must be close to a 460

stock 300 is a 4" bore i believe

i have a 78 f150 4x4 with a 300 i6
it has an aftermarket cam, offenhauser 4barrel intake, dual headers, msd 6 igntion, and a holley 390 cfm vac sec 4 barrel. i love the 300s great torque down low and they say with the cam 4b intake exhaust and cam they estimate around 115hp over stock. the stock hp i believe is from 160 to 200 hp so add 115 to the lower number and you are talking almost 300hp. i have the np435 and 205 with 488s and 44s the motor turns the tire really well the only prob with the 300 i6 is you run out of rpm i wont take mine over 4k were if u build a smallblock 302 351 you are talking atleast another2000+ rpm

I built up my 89 300/6 It is bored .060 over using Keith Black pistons. Milled the head to get 10.25:1, Port matched the head to manifolds, Isky cam, bigger injectors, Big block clutch. It worked out good. IIRC the displacement gain was 12ci.
There is no "rule of thumb" that says a given over bore will yield a certain cubic inch gain cuz it all depends on what bore you started from, and the stroke. Bigger the initial bore size the greater the gain for a given over bore size. The formula you are looking for is Pi x radius squared x stroke x # of cyls. This formula is not perfect since it does not take into account the cc's of the heads, or head gasket.
When building my engine I found there were a few pistons with the same bore but other measurements were wrong such as wrist pin diameter, and pin to dome height, etc.
Other companies to look at for parts at the time I built mine were;
Offenhauser, Clifford Research, Iskiderian Cams, MSD.
