Hey all, Im new here so help me out. Im 16 and ive grown up all my life with samurais. But just recently a lot of my close friends have been gettin then so i really want one now. I live in Sedro-Woolley, WA. Im lookin for running gear or a sami that doesnt run or have a engine. Im planning on puttin a Turbo Diesle out of a Jetta. And most of the stuff is goin to be aftermarket so i wont have to bother too much with the stock stuff.
One of my friends has a 87 JX with this stuff
Turbo Diesle out of a Jetta
Rocky Road 4" SPOA Lift
31x10.5x15 Mud Tires
15x8 Black Steel Wheels
New Soft Top
New reupholsterd camo seats
CB radio
Monroe Shocks
Hes planning on puttin a Calmini Bumper and Warn winch in time.

My other friend has a 87 Sami with reupholsterd camo seats, CB radio, Calmini bumper and Warn 8000lb winch with synthetic rope.

My plan when i get one is to put the diesle in it, CB raido, 4" SPOA lift, 31" BFG mud-terrains, black steel wheels, ARBs front and back with the compact compressor, rancho RS9000x series in back with the 5000 in front (they told me the biggest i could put in the front is 5000 is this true?), camo interior, possible gearing, bumper with warn winch and rope, and a custom back bumper for the air tank.

So the questions im asking is if anyone semi-close has or knows someone that has running gear for a Samurai that they want to get rid of and is the rancho 5000 the biggest i can put in the front. And what do you think of my future setup?

Ethan, Welcome. A VW turbo-diesel in a Sami is a great combo. If I was going to spend the money on ARB's, I would go with Toyota axles. The torque of the diesel will be tough on those little sami birf's and axles. While you are at it, the Sami t-case and diesel are not the greatest combo for the highway since the sami case has an underdrive high range. The Toyota 5-speed and dual cases (with their 1:1 hi-range) are a better compliment for the diesel Sami.

As far as the shocks go, the model of the shock doesn't make any difference. IT is the size that counts ;) You can fit any shock you want in the rear as long as you get the right length.

Tusker has given you some good advice there. Good luck on your build. I wished I was closer, as I have what you need to start with. But something will come up there, just be patient. Good luck.:)

Hey OKIE ZUK,
You've got the RS9000X shocks huh? Front and Rear or just rear, if so what do you have in the front? And how do they do for absorbing terrain?

Just out of curiosity how much did you want to spend on a Samurai? I've got one in Montana that still runs (uses the hell out of some oil though) that I'd sell you for $1000.00 If you're interested let me know and I can go into a little more detail and e-mail you some pics.

Do you have the VW TD yet?
How much do you want to spend on the sami?
Are you looking for a soft or tin top?
The YJ's are the way to go.
TOY axles are good, but I think alot depends on the size tire you plan on running. If you are going to run 31's sami axles work great. In fact they are good up to 32's unless you really like the skinny pedal. With the desiel you wont need to go as low as you would with say a 16V. I live in Everett, let me know how much you are looking to spend on the sami, I have a couple I have been checking on. One may be coming up for sale soon. Not sure on the price yet.

Hey GRW, yeah ive been lookin for a sami. It all depends what they have done to em and how good they r in shape wise. Ive been lookin at the JX series i really like the interoir on it. If it was in good shape and was stock probably up to 1500 but of right now im broke im just tryin to find one with out and engine so my dad could possibly buy it. I would like either tops but i like soft more but my friend likes hard. And no i dont have the VW yet but im lookin and if i see a good one my friend might buy it.
