Well the deal I got on ebay ended up being a bust. I tried to mount the 4.56 ring and pinion I bought in my rear axle and it didn't fit. Seems the CJ10A dana 70 rear axle is a total custom build right down to the only gearset available for it a 4.88. Called six states and they said only a 4.88 will work and is the only one made. So now I guess I'm going to regear the 60 up front. It has some seeping from the pinion so it will be nice to work it over anyway. Anyone got any 4.88 dana 60 gears they want to move. I'll trade for some 4.56 gears for a 60. This is a DD so whats your thoughts on a trak lock or some limited slip up front? I also noticed I broke the third spring in the rear pack at some point. It is starting to slide apart. I'll have to go scour for another 3/4 ton chevy 56" rear pack. Should be alot around but they want 50 bucks a piece here. Does that sound out of line? With the long shackle the death wobble has reappeared a couple times. Not surprised. I'm gonna shorten them and get the castor issue ironed out. I bought some shims to bring it down to 3 degrees so I'll pop those in as well.

Yea, $50 for one leaf pack is a lot. One yard here wants $60 for the pair. I asked about some front waggy leafs at another yard and he wanted $150 for the pair.:shaking:

I pick them up for $15 each so to me $50 is crazy.Good luck w/the gears. If your redoing the gears anyways I would add the L/S unit.

If you're gonna go with a LS, at least use a good one. Use a PowerLok or a Detroit Truetrac. I've never been impressed with TracLoks.

I've got a Detroit Truetrac up front and you may as well leave it open! :shaking:
if you really want a limited slip up front, then i would recommend an auburn lsd. i'm not a big fan of clutch pack differentials myself.

Why not put a locker in it? You aren't going to have the hubs engaged on the street right?

No but lots of Ice and snow here in the winter and I've heard bad things happen with lockers up front on the ice and snow. I drive it daily so thats my concern. I need a set of 4.88's first anyone have recomendations? Are the yukon gears any good?

what do you think the auburn is? true it uses a clutch cone, not a disc pack, but its still a wear-outable unit.
best LSD there is,IMO is the detroit true trac. i run one up front of my scout and it will still pull even with one wheel dangling in the air with some manipulation of the brake pedal. good steering and decent traction for a LSD,no clutches to wear out and no special oil or modifiers required :)
