Ok, so I am still stuck in f'n Bellevue Wa and can only dream about wrenching on my rig for a few more weeks. I can't wait to get home and install the propane set-up, and go wheeling. So maybe I am over-analyzing the situation but what kinds of things should I do to the stock Prestolite ignition system to improve the performance of the propane ? I have been told to add an MSD unit, but I don't really care for the brand. I have been seriously considering a DUI dizzy but just not sure. Damian is the only person I can find that has actually run the DUI but not with bbq gas.
So as long as I can only plot and plan instead of wrench and wheel, I want to hear some advice and opinions on the subject.
Then come December I will be wheeling TSF almost constantly and you're all invited !
Thanks,
KZ

MSD boxes are nice but the most important thing is that you have a hot coil and good plugs and wires. Also a proper advance curve is manditory. You want lots of adavance quickly (low rpm) but not to exceed 28-30* total

Thanks .
So my Accel "super coil" and 8.8mm wires should be OK right? I was told by "thepropaneguy.com" one step colder plug would be best, but that seems like a contradiction , what do you think?
So for now I think I'll stick with the Prestolite and just plan on playing with an adjustable vacuum adv. to dial in the curve, sound like a wise plan of attack to you?
Thanks for the input,

Go with colder plugs if you tow or run hard as propane has no cooling from evaporateing gas. I run champion j4c ? i'll check on that but they are for ind. propane motors. Did you block the heat riser holes in intake ?

No I didn't block the holes. I didn't get the idea of running propane until after the motor was completed. I was told not to worry about it now, but the next time I need to tweak the manifold for some reason jump on the opportunity . I do tend to run that 392 pretty hard so i would be interested to know for sure what plug you are happy with. In all my searches i saw your name quite a bit, are you still happy with the overall performance of propane ( besides it's ease and cost compared to EFI)?
Thanks for the help.
Carl and Dan,
thanks for rubbing that in. Did you guys run the whole thing? Really only 2 "xtreme" obsracles but a really fun trail you can spend an entire day on. And it's pretty challenging with a little rain.
Talk at ya later,
KZ

I run a complete MSD ignition on my 460 and am very happy with it. 6AL, dizzy, Offroad coil, and wires.
Since you don't like MSD, I'd look athttp://www.dualcurve.com for your ignition system. I've read good things, but I didn't find out about them until after I had ordered my MSD setup.

Propane burns much cooler than gasoline. I don't know where you are going with this? maybe something I have over looked? www.propanecarbs.com www.alternatefuelsracing.com
