Were there any other rearends, besides the 9.25, that have the 5x4.5 bolt pattern? I need one to match the 44 front i have since the 9.25 is limited to 4.56:( Thanks for any help

5 on 4.5 on a 44? its not full time is it? if so run now. the wheelbearing set-up is weak and the bearings go out often when used hard. you'd be better off finding ford d44 stuff from (and including) the knuckles out (5 on 5.5") and just use a ford 9 rear from a truck ( 5 on 5.5"- look for 31 spline axles). hope that helps.:D

All 2wd before the 94 models had 5X4 1/2 pattern but you will probably need an 8 3/4 from a 74 or older.. not sure what ratio you need but I think you can get 4.56 for the 8 3/4.. you might call one of the gear dealers an see if they go lower..

Speaking 1/2 tons only, the 4.5" pattern was used on all Dodge trucks (2wd and 4wd) during the full-time 4wd era ('74-'79), they all used either the 8 3/8" or 9 1/4" rear. All pre-'74 (8 3/4" rear) and '80-'02 (9 1/4" and 8 3/8" rear) use a 5.5" pattern, including 2wds.

Better do more research newbie:flipoff2: :flipoff2: .. I have an 85 2wd that I used for parts for my 86 4X4 it has the small pattern and I had a 74 2wd that I drove many miles before selling it to my brotherwho still has it that has the small pattern.. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: so go back to your Toys and let the real Moparmen answer this one..

I don't know when they started the 4 1/2" in the 2 wheel drives but all the 2wd 1/2 ton dodge pickups I have looked at from the 60s and 70s were 4 1/2" pattern. I had an 85 2wd that had the 5 1/2" pattern, I think they did a running change during the 85 MY to the 5 1/2"BC in the 2wd trucks. I have a couple 83 2wd parts trucks and they are 4 1/2" BC

Ok, you've played with a truck that had a 4.5" pattern, good for you. I've worked on many more 2wd "toys" than that that had a 5.5" pattern. Its nice that you know everything, good for you, you're such a "real" moparman. LMAO! :flipoff2:

the Chrysler 8 3/4" rear end will go lower.. the 489 casting will go down to 5.38:1, and the 742 casting will go down to 5.57:1. I am guessing you want something in that range. As for 5 on 4.5, I have seen SOME early 75 dodge trucks with a 8 3/4", but I think you would be much better off looking for a 74 and older 2wd dodge rear end.

Hope I helped ya out. Garrett
