Kind of interesting.

really makes you wonder who all these RCAA competitors are that you NEVER see on the trail except for the comps, and can go and drop a grand on a centersection of two alone without thinking twice.

sometimes i really do think that this sport has gone the way of NASCAR... big $$$ sponsors and rich guys dukin it out on the weekends for bragging rights at their next house party.

i wonder it the butler serves double duty as the mechanic? because if they cant answer the door themselves you just KNOW that they wont pick up a wrecnch

They do turn out a nice product, but $1000 for a center section, is sure hard to budget.

Dude, you need to get a real job and stop you're bitching. :flipoff2: People always gave me a hard time about sticking port EFI on my 454. "Oh that just costs too much!" People used to bitch about AL heads on a BBC, too. Why is this any different?

You don't have to be a rich "bastard" to buy one of these $1k castings, you save up your money and buy it for a winter project or you put it on the Visa and pay it off during the year. If you've got a home-grown way of making something like this let me know and I'll start it this weekend.

Pretty cool!! Doesn't look like they improved the oil galley to the front bearing though. Its hard to tell from the pictures.

more money in the sport is a good thing for everyone. We want the top rigs to be as trick as possible so they attract spectators. As more people get into the hobby, better parts will be available and prices will drop. Not to mention competition will be way more intense and competitive.

With that relatively small oil capacity, does anyone else see cooling problems?? Maybe they have a large diff cover.

..........never mind, I just read this.........

QUOTE:

"For unmatched cooling and lubrication, the Pro Rock 60 uses Dynatrac exclusive Dual Sump-High Volume™ (DSHV) oil flow system. Axle builders looking for custom suspension attachment points benefit from the Pro Rock’s optional Suspension Mounting Deck."

I like it, but will never buy one.

The only reason that the sport is going this direction is because there are people that will spend $1000 on a empty piece of cast iron, $2000 for a tcase or $300 for a couple of u-joints. I've been doing this as a hobby for about 15 yrs. and I have always loved it, now I'm starting to see the writing on the wall. Soon the trails will be clogged with checkbook rigs and Aholes.

Dirtrod,
Unfortunately, if we dont gather spectator support and improve the overall perception that we have as a bunch of drunken, garage mechanics, then we will probably loose all of our trails to enviro zealots across the country.
Its a double edged sword. If we dont gain major support, that our recreation is worth keeping alive and should be allowed to have the trails we need kept open, then we will lose them, in time. If we do gain the support, it will come with changes, and many neophites, and their high dollar machines. Some will stay the for the long haul, some will quit after an expensive season or two,...but at least we will still be around.
Right now we are too big to ignore, and too small to win, many of the big battles.
I agree its a lot of money, for a pig, but if one showed up on my doorstep, you can bet your ass I would find the time to put it together and stuff it under my rig.
As for the $2000 for a T case, find me another set up, that can compare that isnt within 25% of the cost an Atlass, or the equivelant in machine shop time. Some parts you just got to count on. The $300 joints, they speak for themselves the 1st time you blow up a stock assembley and peel your spindle and knuckles off with it.
I personaly like the direction the sport is growing, and I hope it contiunues to do so.

I love this kind of stuff, you can spend a grand to buy it or you can spend the time to trim the one you have. it feels good when my homebuilt heap outdoes something woth that much, especially hummers :-)

Well lets really look at that statement.
Out here in Northern Cal, where everyone and their brother has been convinced that no other axle will do but a D60 front, the cost is between $1000- $1200. You still need to add new bearings, re-gear and add a locker, cut down the axle tubes, or retube all together with thicker material. If you didnt have 35 splines inners and outers to begin with,(which you usualy wont), you can add that to the cost, then some high steer components and new linkage, I mean what are ytou really keeping on that $1200 D60? ...A pumpkin and a pair of knuckles?
I priced up what my D60 will cost me, with me doing ball the work, and its still gonna cost me $3000 or more, with a $1000 starting point for the junkyard D60.

Yep, with a locker that's pretty close.
Before the sport got popular you could get that ft 60 for $300...

BTW...It's not just a N.Cal thing...Everybody but YOU is convinced that a 60 is the only thing that will do.

BWAHAhahahah......fugg'n newbies anyway....
