I have an 89 YJ that had a 258. I swaped in a 99 TJ, 4.0L motor, AX-15, 231, gas tank.
I used a YJ 4.0L engine harness and Computer and spliced all the TJ conections to the harness. I can't seem to start the Jeep. Some friends seem to think that I need to put a YJ 4.0L CPS and then it will work. Is this true? What do you guys think? Do I need anything else?
The Jeep turns over, Fuel goes to the rail. I think I hurd the injectors working. There is just no spark. We checked the coil on someone elses Jeep and it worked fine. I have new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, fresh oil and filter. Plust that TJ gas tank fuel pump is real quiet. But gas seems to go to the rail.
Thanks,

does your 4.0 have a distributer or the coil packs ?
have you pulled a pulg wire to see if you are getting spark ?

In 2000 that had changed on the TJ. So no I don't have that, I have a distributor on my 99 motor. I kept the TJ distributer that came with the motor. No spark right now and were thinking it's because the CPS should be a YJ one?

It's a YJ computer that I have so that it could work with the YJ guages I bought and the YJ engine harness I bought.
It's a distributer that I have. No spark right now.

Details:
The computer and wiring harness was wired up. TJ sensors, injectors, distributor are being used.
The TJ FSM says the Crank and cam sensors are supposed to be supplied with 5V - the volt meter shows 9V. Do the YJ computers send 9V to the sensors? Are TJ and YJ Crank and Cam sensors compatible?
Should Shawn get a YJ Cam and crank sensor, to go with his YJ computer or is that not neccesary.
We do not have a good TJ harness, so we can't use the TJ computer.
Thanks,
Phil

We definitely need a donor YJ. The Crankshaft position sensor isn't that big a deal, but the CAM one is. IT's in the distributor. I am wondering if you have to change the whole thing.
Maybe we should check the CDN Tire return policy and go that route if they will take it back?

I found a 94 YJ distributor with the sensor for CDN$50.

Well I will see if this Crank Position Sensor will work tonight and if it does not then I might try that too.
Here is a picture of the intersting things we were trying to do to get 5 Volts on Saturday.

And here is what the motor looks like in the Jeep:

The CPS did not work.
I will be puting the TJ wiring and computer in. Then manualy splicing the gauges in with my YJ ones.
Will that work? Will the Jeep run? I think it should!
