Hey Jeep guys, I just got a T-18 from a scrap yard for $50. T-18 mated to a Dana 20 twin stick. My question is what did this come out of? I assume it came from a CJ but I guess it could be Scout. Did Jeep ever offer a T-18 with a twin stick 20?

Sounds like a Scout to me. Jeep never had a twin stick D20.

are you sure it is a 20 because it could be an 18 which did come from the factory in some instances with twin stick i believe. also you can tell if it came from a cj or jtruck by the input shaft. if is very short it came from a cj if it is long (don't know but you will know if you see it) and has a spacer between the tranny and the bellhousing then it came from a j-truck hope this helps

I am sure it is a Dana 20. It did not have a bellhousing but the input shaft is regular length.

Sorry but that doesn't narrow it down much. Jeep used four different input shaft lengths that I have seen and there may be more. Also seeing that it was twin sticked sounds like a Scout to me which opens up even more cans of worms as far as input shafts go.

I believe that scout Trannies were bolted to the bellhousings from inside the bellhouing. (someone confirm this) therefore if the T-18 you have has 4 threaded holes in the input face of the case, it should be from a Scout, or IH product. If memory serves, CJ shafts were 6.5" long, Scouts were 7.5" long, and the 4-banger Scouts were a measly 4.5" long. (how come nobody ever put one of these in a Jeep) once agin, someone confirm this data, it's an old set of number s from an older memory

I can confirm this for the T19 at least.

The only D20 T-case I know of from the factory came in a Scout.

If it's off a scout, it looks like this:

Note the huge input shaft and the studs on the front of the case. This is a T19, but the IH T18's are the same way. And yes, this one had a twin stick D20 as well.

ok, i've got a t-18 (i think) that has a shift tower stamped 'T19' and case that is stamped 'T18'. i know this was done by FORD at one time, but i would like to know if i actually have a t18 or t19. the serial ## does not start with 13##. so, is there any other way to tell.

first and rev are synchronized on a t-19 and not a t-18

T-18 out of a CJ input shaft measures 7.5 inches.
T-18 out of a J truck will measure 11.5 inches. If you have the J truck T18 you can get a shorter input shaft for it dont know who makes it but I know its around $150-$180 bucks for the shaft kit.

Not necessarily. CJ T18's from '72-75 have a 9.xx" input shaft (don't remember the exact number). CJ T18's from '76-79 have the shorter input (closer to 6.5"). I have one of each of these sitting in my shop. J-truck T18's from a six cylinder truck have a shorter input than those from a V8 truck (the one with the 5" adapter on it).

Just first, not reverse on the T-19.
