: caddy engine in Blazer.
big mudder 10-25-2005, 05:31 PM Who has put a 472 or 500 caddy engine in a 73-87 Blazer. What did you do about motor mounts.I am building a mud truck and want big displacement without getting held up on a 454.How much NOS can one reasonably handle. Can I put a 4wd Chevy TH 400 output in the caddy case so I can run my 205 or should I run a divorce case.
ckolloff 10-25-2005, 05:44 PM Check out Maximum Torque Specialties website. My Caddy is going into a 'cruiser so i just fabbed up some mounts using part of the stock mount and some large bushings from poly performance. As far as going into a GM chassis it should be pretty easy- I remember when I was building mine they had info about how there is a stock crossmember that bolts directly into many chevy frames and will accomodate the caddy block. The website is:
www.500cid.com
you can also contact Cad Company at:
www.cad500parts.com
I'd call both of them and see what they say. It's not an uncommon or tough swap.
Good luck.

big mudder 10-25-2005, 05:45 PM I see the post at the bottom of the page now.

Yes, you can put a 4wd TH400 output into a cady case. I did that with an NP203 with no issues.... aside from the fact you have to pull the tranny completely apart :shaking:

You might find it easier to get a TH400 from a Buick/Pontiac/Olds cause it uses the same bell housing bolt pattern as a Caddy motor and use the TH400 to NP205 adapter.
k10caddy 10-25-2005, 10:18 PM from what others have told me jet the carb rich and hit it with a 250 shot. it'll last a long time if it doesn't get lean.
also the easiest method would be to use an adapter plate for use with a chevy th400.

lagrange151 10-25-2005, 10:23 PM If your gonna run NOS the 454 parts will be cheaper to replace when it blows up
whitfield 10-26-2005, 07:45 AM Guy running Drags are hitting them bone stock with 150 hp shot and still getting consistant times and making 300+ passes. The pedistle rockers become the weak link once you get above 5k RPM or excessive wear from abuse / milage.
I'm working on Mounts in another thread. I've got one going in a 1-ton Crew cab in a week or two.
I'm using the Trans go adapter kit (Summit Racing) to mate the Caddy to the Chev 400. You must have a torque converter to crank adapter to hold the snout of the converter, otherwise you will constantly break flywheels.
Trans go was the only kit I found that included this part.
Check out the CB7 board mentioned above.

rockhog 10-26-2005, 09:11 AM I am running a 500 caddy in my Jeep Commando. I used the BOP caddy 400 and swapped in the 203 output shaft.
tiny2085 10-26-2005, 09:59 AM You wouldn't happen to have a picture, or part number of the torque converter adapter would you? I am currently mating my th400 to a 500. Thanks. Oh and that picture show was absolutely disgusting!!! What kind of Hp and torque #'s did you get ?
whitfield 10-26-2005, 11:24 AM http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/trd-0061_w.jpg
Part # TRD-0061
Price $78.69
Summit currently has it written up WRONG (Transmission Adapter, Steel, Chevy Engines, to Buick/Cadillac/Oldsmobile/Pontiac TH350/TH400/700R4, Each ).
When you check the details it list the correct info. BOP / Caddy Engine & Chevy trans.
Bellhousing Bolt Pattern Chevy
Transmission Automatic
Transmission Make Chevrolet
Transmission Type 700R4
Make CADILLAC
Engine Type V8
Engine Family Cadillac V8
The engine is done By POTTER a reknown machinist and one man speed shop on the CB7 Board. It was his 509 Caddy entry into the Engine masters challenge
http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters
His combo makes over 520 ft lbs of torque and 400hp at 2500 rpm....just crazy numbers. His dyno wouldnt allow complete pulls since the motor ran away at 5400 and left the dyno. He thinks something around 840hp and over 700ft lbs of torque.
Play by play of the EMC on the CB7

Juztyn00 10-29-2005, 10:37 AM I'm running a caddy 500 in my K20... i got an adapter plate similar to the one above for $30 off ebay. as for the mounts i 2nd the vote for a 3/8" plate with a few holes... works great and is simple as hell... just make sure your body mounts arent worn out/missing or it'll rub the firewall.. I'm going to do a 1-2" bodylift to correct that problem though. Oh and the adapter works both ways... chevy engine to BOP trans OR BOP engine to chevy trans. The caddy engine is a well built engine and can handle considerably more nos than most other engines in stock form. but as it is its a torque monster so have fun with it!
Y5mgisi 11-06-2005, 05:47 PM I put a 500 in my 78 burb. I dont like the flat plate idea personaly so i did some poly bushings and custom mounts. heres a couple pics. I still need to figure out a crossmember of some sort.
