: d60 dulay front to single front
Evan03 10-26-2005, 06:45 PM how much cash am i looking at to convert the dan60 front to the single wheel stance.
ive got dibs on a K30 dualy. guy only wants 250 for the truck. i went over at lunch to see if it was d60 front. it was and he saw me perk up real quick. i asked what front end it had and he couldnt tell me.
if its not to awfull exspensive id get this axle and swap the transfer case in my truck to pside drop t-case. this would take the place of my hpd44 in my 89 reg cab.
also what t-case will bolt behind my sm465 thats a passenger side drop. im only slowly realizeing t-cases arent as swapable as i thought. i recently found the hard way that a 241 behind a 700r4 will not bolt to the sm465. t-case imput shaft is difrent.
thanks for any and all info.
Evan
also the k30 should have 4.10s i think. i didnbt check that. could it possibly be running 456's
1967K10 10-26-2005, 07:18 PM Sounds like a great find. You can have them machined off for around $150 or do a complete hub swap for around $400.I did the hub swap before I knew I could have them machined down.I'm kinda lost as to what you are putting it in:confused: ? An 89' SAS'd Chevy?? What year is it? It should have a 205.
KWTMECH 10-26-2005, 07:22 PM You can do the swap for about 350. with brand new parts from the dealer. Pass drop case, you may have to swap the output shaft of the trans and also move your whole exhaust system to the drivers side. Your 465 more than likely has the long 32 spline output. Steve at ORD at one time was talking about making an adpator to use this output.
Evan03 10-27-2005, 07:39 PM yeah an 89 sfa chevy. it currently has the d44 hp ford front end, chevy internals, sm465 /241 combo
i think the k30 has a 203 t-case
1967K10 10-27-2005, 07:59 PM Does the d60 have lockouts? I have only seen 1 k30 without them.
justscoutin 10-28-2005, 03:45 AM all you gotta do for a transfer case is find a 241 or even a 208 from a th400 or sm465. think 3/4 suburban, or military cucv.
Evan03 10-28-2005, 11:38 AM dont know if its got lock outs. i just made sure it was dan60 talked to guy alittle and was on my way. i tried not to alk to interested because i dont want him tryn to screw me and hes comeing across like that.
how much do i need to get machined off on the d60 to match the d60 single wheel width.
im getn all confused here. the tranny in the k30 looked like a 700r4 is that whats suposed to be in them. ????
i know alittle less than nothing about these trucks
s1037s 10-28-2005, 11:45 AM There is an excellent article by Billvista in the tech section.Search there:)
fordnut 10-28-2005, 01:24 PM just swap the hubs ive even seen people looking for drw ones so maybe you could trade.
LewMan 10-29-2005, 01:07 AM SRW D60 front axles are hard to find. DRW D60 front axles are plentiful. Are you people saying just start with a DRW D60 front axle and either machine the hubs or replace the hubs and you end-up with a SRW D60 front? Is there anything else that needs to be changed out? Does this work with any year?
tlspeed1 10-30-2005, 07:33 AM I took my dually hubs and had a local guy here machine them down. Only cost me $50. Then I drilled out the holes, the ones the previously held on the rotor, for the correct size stud. Only have $600 in to my, now single wheel, dana 60.
Evan03 10-30-2005, 07:38 AM axles now mine.
i may turn them myself. have axcess to the college machine shop from time to time.
anyone want tranny or 14ff dualy rear. or maybe an 87 cab. if your close yoiu could probly pick it up for pretty close to free.
Poohbair 10-30-2005, 08:18 AM Depending what motor it has for the gears.. if it is a small block truck then it is probably 4.56 gears...
Should be a D70HD in the rear instead of a 14 bolt.
Leave it DRW and just run Hummer rims, and then put some wheel spacers on the back, or swap in the DRW Rearend too. Works fine, and you will have cheap beadlocks.
Evan03 10-30-2005, 08:46 AM big block
ive already got a 14 bolt for the rear.
TBItoy 10-30-2005, 11:18 AM the dually should have a Th400, 205 with a slipyoke, and a Dana 70 rear.
1967K10 10-30-2005, 02:01 PM If it was a CC it will have a 14bolt. I have only seen one 1ton with a slip-yoke.We have owned or own 6 of them. Only one with a slip yoke was an 80'.
Keep the dully hubs and run H1 hummer rims with 7.25 back spacing. It will keep your hubs out of the rocks. That's what I would do. :smokin: :cool2:

AtTiLiA 10-31-2005, 08:34 PM did u buy this yet ?? if not ill buy it and take that 60 and use it so let me know man, it sound like your buying it but i thought i would ask and im in utah.
lt1yj 10-31-2005, 09:36 PM anyone want tranny or 14ff dualy rear. or maybe an 87 cab. if your close yoiu could probly pick it up for pretty close to free.
If you weren't so darn far away I'd love to take the chassis. Mine is rusted out and no hope of repair without backhalving it.
The 241 behind a 700R is gonna have the 27 spline input, the same thing behind a 465 is a 32. You can get a new 32 spline shaft for the 241, it's easier than tearing apart the tranny.
On the hub deal, we can machine those down for you if that's the route you decide to go, and don't want to do it yourself.
On the question of is that all there is to it, yea, either machine the DRW hub to remove the "outer" ring where the wheel used to bolt, and setup the "inner" ring to take the studs OR you could swap out a set of SRW hubs, and viola, you now have a SRW D60 ;)
FYI the rotors are different too. not sure if they can just be redrilled.
