why in the hell would you want an ax5? The ax 15 is the better tranny. At least that's what I thought.

I may be wrong, but as long as you have the bell housing, they should all fit.

Becuase fot the most part it is easier to replace a AX-5 with an AX-5 than a AX-5 with an AX-15. But it is worth it to find something else than an AX-5. Any AX-5 should interchange, the only difference between the external slave and internal slave is the input cover on the transmission and that can easily be swaped if need be.

What is your situation? Do you have an ax5 that is no good so you are replacing it, or do you have an auto and you what to go with a manual? Is this a daily driver or is it just a trail rig? With a little more information, the people on this site can give you some great ideas. I just got rid of my ax5 and swapped in an auto, much nicer for rock crawling. Auto to manual would all depend on gearing. Just need a little more information to help out better.

thank you xtu
I have done the research about using a dakotr bell or some such thing and yes it all sounds great.
if this were a scheduled upgrade then yes i would be upgrading. hell i have also been doing research on a 435 and a bronco dana 20
but it ain't scheduled, when i did the clutch last weekend the input shaft had some wiggle in it. so i want information on exactly what I asked for so that i can go to the pick n pull and get a cheap tranny to keep me on the road
i did know about internal vs external slave.
I have heard that the the transfer case linkage bolts onmay have changed...if that is the only difference then that is an easy unscheduled upgrade
