Has anyone heard of or had any problems with torque steer? I just lifted a 2000 TJ and did a SYE...under acceleration it will pull to the left and straightens up when you let off the gas. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you install a transfer case lowering kit? I had the same problem. Check trans mount and motor mounts.

I replaced the tranny mount and the motor mounts look to be fine. They are both intact and no obvious cracks or tears in the rubber. Any other ideas?

It's some what the nature of the beast with a track bar solid axle front end. When you step on the gas the front end is trying to pull up moving the axle to the drivers side a bit. When you let off it moves back to the orig. position. I bet when you slam on the brakes hard it makes it pull the opposite way, doesn't it?
You may have an issue with your front axle not being centered under the front end. Have you checked your front axle for center on a flat street? Being parked up or down on a slight incline will make it read differently...
I'd start there, just be sure to mesure from the same spot behind the spring bucket on both sides and read the tire lugs in the same spot or drop a plum bob off the fender flare in the same spot and see what you have. A 1/4" can make a difference. If it's over on one side adjust the track bar half of the overage to center it up. Good luck!
If you have the Y-link set up this will definitely torque your wheel under acceleration or hard braking. That's on of the main reasons I put in a high steer kit with a 2 earred knuckle so there isn't a Y to change your toe in when your front end moves up and down... Something to consider if it bugs you.

Awesome...Thanks a lot!! I'll give it a shot and hopefully I can get it straightened out.

I have torque steer bad. But its my rear axle. I have a 90 YJ with 6" of lift, ford 8.8 in the rear with a detroit locker. and 4.88 gears. Mine pulls to the left like a mofo when i give it gas and then straighten's back up when i let off. It's notmy motor mounts. I just put MORE bombproof mounts in. probably made it worse. But I'm also running a 4.6 stroker. I have plenty of torque. So any suggestions?

short wheel base + detroit in rear + torquey motor = "HANG ON DUDE!"

dude you nailed it right on the head. The only person that likes to ride with me is my 5 year daughter, she thinks it's fun.

I drove it around today and it might be my front axle doing the turning for me. I was noticing that my front end lifts up and leans like a funny car in heat. only when i stomp it. otherwise its not too bad. Maybe I need a sway bar. :(

my junk torques over sideways so bad when i hit the gas hard, the left raises a few inches. Pulling into my garage i have about 4 inches clearance but it i hold the break and ride the clutch out i can get the left side to torque up and almost hit the garage door. My turns get awful squirelly too with no swaybar. Some bitch pulled out in front of me last week while i was goin about 45, i stabbed the brakes and swerved left and my right rear came a good foot off the ground, i caught up to the girl and made her cry. Damn short wheelbase.

mine lifts the suspension in the front about 4-6 inches. the front lifts up and dips to the rip. from ym view it looks like a funny car launching. But its scary as hell trying to miss other cars.

I run a full case detroit in the rear on my dd. Like others said, it walks all over the place between shifts and getting on the gas and letting off. Mine is pretty bad and I've only got a 4 banger. I've only let one guy drive my jeep because he has a spool in the rear of his with 37, figured he would be able to do it. When he got out he handed me the keys back and said "Sure is a hell of a learning curve driving that thing!"

Cage,

Are you still running short arms or did you go to a long arm style suspension? How much lift did you add?

Generally any amount of lift over 4" with short arms will cause the arms to be at such an angle to cause a pretty decent amount of axle steer caused by suspension movement. When the suspension compresses the axle not only moves upwards but forwards as well and visa versa. When your axle articulates...one side up...one side down...like when you hammer on the gas, on side of your axle goes forward while the other goes back pointing the axle off-line. When your truck leans right (i.e. when you goose it) the axle steer sends you left. Combine soft lift springs, no sway bar and it gets worse!

yoo gents, check out the steering angles. i always turn to the left when i take off and turn to the right when i stop. for me it was cause of the bump steer effect only in reverse.

I agree with XJBender, plus with steering angles it does make for a puckering ride.

My TJ does the same shit. I don't think the heims, rear 4 link, and no sway bars helps though. I'm going to eliminate the heims soon, and add a front sway bar to hopefully help with the torque steer.

I doubt seriously its caused by your front axle. If your locked in the rear (Detroit) and gas it, it'll torque on you, but you may have a rear axle alignment problem too. Check to make sure your axle is centered (trackbar) under the vehicle, and you dont have a broken mount on one of your CA's. Maybe even some slop in your trackbar or CA joints.
