So, what do you think? I'm curious, I haven't seen the finished product, I get mine like everyone else, and it's always a few days behind the first posters.

What do you guys think of the cover shot? There was some controversy about whether we should go with one of the radically-modified FJ55's, but I campaigned against it. First of all, I don't want TT to start looking like all the commercial rags, and second, I thought this shot was a good representative of a true Iron Pig. What do you think? Does this make sense? Ultimately, I don't have the final say on covers, that's layout and thus Henry B's realm, but I do get a vote! :)

I think you guys made a great choice in using a real world 55 in the cover. Don't get me wrong, I think some of the rigs like W. Harold's are bitchen, but a regular old Pig is what represents the story to me ;)

Great Cover shot! I like the pictures in the trails they always show the everyday rigs you see on the trail not always the prettiest but these guys are doin' it! Is Henry done doing the "readers rides"?

There will *definitely* be more reader's rigs in issues to come, but I wanted to get back to some tech content, more diverse coverage. If you have pictures, send them in. If you've already done so, stay tuned.

Henry,

Got some guidelines for us newbie folks?

Photo's: What to do/not do (i.e. when I did a newsletter, black and white glossy worked best for screening... but in reality I took what ever I could get!). Minimum digital resolution?

Tech tips: side bars of SIMPLE idea's. For the knuckle rebuilds I have three little custom tools: Brass drift about 12" long, brass drift about 2" long, and a 10mm bolt with the head cut off and slotted. Trivia... do you know what each is used for (hint, makes repacking the knuckle bearings and birfs much quicker.). Not a full article, but a simple tech side bar.

Photos. You always want to use glossy pictures, the matte ones don't scan quite as well. We'll take any shot we can get, but we definitely prefer wheeling pictures over the inevitable driveway shot. Play with contrast, too, an overexposed picture of a white rig against an overcast sky isn't going to give us much to work with, but a picture of the same rig against a tree canopy would work well. IMHO, the most common mistake people make is not taking the picture close enough..GET CLOSE, folks, and if you want to show a detail, get right in it.

For reader's rigs, our preferred format is an action shot (or a poseur shot or, worst case scenario, a driveway shot) that shows the whole truck, and at least three detail (close-up) shots of particular features.

As for sidebars, this is something I've *always* been VERY interested in. We even had a proposal from a TLCA member who was going to compile quick tips and little tricks into a feature column called "Dirty Shorts", but he faded away and never delivered. Anyone out there interested?

I'd love to see a write-up of your little tool kit, Tom, I think this is exactly what people want to see on the pages of TT, *more TECH*! :)

Keep the ideas coming, man, this is YOUR magazine!

Kitchen remodeling is taking all my free time thru May, but....

I just rebuilt my t-case and shot some .tif images of that.

Just relocated my batteries to under the drivers seat.....tif's pending.

Just installed a PS cooler and inline filter.....tif's pending.

A friend recently put a custom tube rear chassis/internal cage on a minitruck with coils and links....shot multiple .tif's of that project

Same friend just started a from-scratch tube chassis FJ40 yesterday....headed over tonight for .tif shots. Probably gonna shoot 4 .tif's a day for the next few weeks while he builds it.

Now, regarding that free time issue...I'm 2 weeks late with my Cruiser club newsletter and 4 weeks late with the W4WDA newsletter....this is gonna be a BUSY weekend catching up!

But I am working on it.....

Join the TLCA (http://www.tlca.org). (Toyota Land Cruiser Association)

It's a great magazine. Another big benefit of membership is 25% parts discounts at member businesses.

Most definately join the TLCA if you own a Toyota. I can't begin to say enough good things for the organization of 'cruiser heads.
