I sure hope you cans can help me. How would I take apart the rearend on an 86 isuzu pickup? I just need it apart so I can take the axels out. The pickup was donated to the autoshop a few years ago, and its beat to hell, so I was put in charge of salvaging the drum brakes off the thing for demo purposes with the autos 1 kids.. I have never had this much damn trouble before.... there is no rear cover plate (figures) so I need to take the pinoin gear housing off. Heres the problem... I CANT GET IT OFF!!! I took all nuts surrounding the housing off, and it wont come off... I mean, I tried to loosen it up a bit, and I tried prying it off. (I can afford to be a bit destructive because its getting chucked) It prys up about 3/4 of an inch, no more. Is the pinion bearing pressed onto the pinion shaft? Its what I suspect, and I cant get it off.

Please help

TIA,

Jim

Did you pull the axles out? The third member won't come out until you pull the axles out a few inches.

So I should slide the axles out and it will pop off? I mean I saw the carrier bearings moving when I pried. Ill give that a shot monday. Thanks alot for your help.

yeah remove anything attached to the brakes, remove the 4 bolts/side hold the shafts in and they will slide out. then the 3rd should come out
