: will ttb50 knuckles swap out with ttb44 knuckles?
masterbeavis 10-28-2005, 06:14 PM just wondering. Need to get rid of the parts truck it has the TTB50 on it. The 44 I have needs brakes, so I want to use the 5 parts on the 44. The knuckles appear to have the same spacin, can I unbolt then and reuse them??
edit
Parts truck is an 88, bronco is a '90
masterbeavis 10-29-2005, 12:06 PM Cmon now, some of you closet TTB'ers know the answer to this....
Fireguy50 10-29-2005, 12:25 PM I was told no, but they could be wrong.
If it works let me know, I'd love to have the 3/4 ton brakes
Dustball 10-29-2005, 04:47 PM No, neither the HD TTB D44 or the TTB D50 knuckles will swap with your regular TTB D44 knuckles.
NakedDucks 10-29-2005, 05:52 PM But the shafts MAY swap

masterbeavis 10-29-2005, 08:16 PM how about spindles? if they are both 6 bolt will they cross over, or has ford in their infinte wisdon decided to F with me some more?
u2slow 10-29-2005, 08:39 PM IIRC, the TTB50 spindle is 5-bolt... just like the D60. Hubs are the same as the D60, so the spindle is D60-sized also.
masterbeavis 10-29-2005, 08:53 PM I read someplace that the 50 could be 5 or 6. 5 lug is 6, 44 8 lug is 8, and the 50 could be 5 or 6.
I am just to lazy to take something apart I can't use :( If I can use it on the otherhand...... :D
masterbeavis 10-29-2005, 09:18 PM well shoot, I got off my ass and took a look at it, yes its 5 lug :( My 44 under my 77 F250 is 8 lug and 5 studs for the spindle. Does anybody know if they are the same spacing?? I am bound and determined to use these 50 parts someplace.
Can the TTB spindles be redrilled to use the 6 lug pattern?
NakedDucks 10-30-2005, 04:09 AM I've already showed you where to use the inner stub...if you don't want it, I would like to get it from you, and try this upgrade myself!

Even if you got the spindles to work, the 8 lug rotors will not clear the cast-in caliper mounts on the 1/2 ton ttb knuckles. I went through all the possibilities and ended up doing my 8-lug swap with 3/4 ton chevy parts which involves cutting off the caliper mount ears and using the bolt-on chevy caliper mounts.
82F100SWB 10-30-2005, 07:21 AM The D50 spindle is a D60 part with a shorter index on the back side of it. It WILL NOT fit a 44...
Just go Chevy parts to get your 8 lug stuff, probably end up cheaper in the long run anyhow.
masterbeavis 10-30-2005, 08:17 AM Is there a TTB knuckle that does not have the caliper mount cast into it?
[edit] Looks like I cut the ears off with the 8 lug chevy swap. Is there a caliper backing plate that will work on the ford brakes?

I could be wrong, but I think he said it ;)
masterbeavis 10-30-2005, 12:07 PM I want to use what I have, the ford brakes and hubs. Did the '98 and up use bolt on cailper brackets? Would the older 8 lug 44 mounts work?
NakedDucks 10-30-2005, 05:23 PM Some things will only work one way.
This is one of them.
Use the Chevy Stuff to get your 8 lug outers. (And the inner stub like I showed you!!!)
masterbeavis 10-30-2005, 08:59 PM phooey, I have to do this the hard way!! No part shall go unused!!

using parts off of the truck, and a skyjacker class 3 axle pivot, I can make this work, and get 6" of lift at the same time, and use parts from the 4" rancho kit I have been staring at for the longest time unused. Yea, its TTB still, but its a tow rig, who cares?
I might come to my senses one of these days, and just go pick up the free chevy parts at my buddies house.
