RED PRIMER works great!:flipoff2: :grinpimp: :D

I almost said that, I am glad you did. The nice thing about primer is you don't fell bad about not fixing the sheet metal:D

Looking good, I like that tire carrier too.

I went 1.35". My shafts are 1.31 at the splines and 1.33 in the middle. It only took a little bit off the ID. The biggest part was turning the back side of the spindle down to match the ID of the axle tube. We also cut an 'O' ring groove into the flange. Its been rolling around for over a month now and not a single leak. The Warn drive flanges are liquid tight too, so far.

It did, when it was new!:D

Notice my sweet mud flaps. I did, after I realized it wasn't some goofy photochop to hide something.

Screw the orange paint, just get some rocket flares!

I'm not smart enough to know how to photo chop anything. I went out of my way to make sure this rig is legal. I want to be able to go to drive it right through town and thumb my nose at the county mounty's. I'm sure they could probly site me for no side mirror or vision obstruction cuz the lower bar does run in front of the windshield, but 99% of the cops dont notice that stuff. i'm still waiting for the 'driving too slow on the highway' ticket:D

Good info. Im just worried about it holding up with tires bigger than 35's, you are running alloy shafts right?

Time for a little update. I have been wheeling the snot out of it lately. this last weekend I did some serios damage to the passenger rocker.
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3493/20060614001411aa9po.jpg

So I figured I would finally do something about it. Before and after.

Pass side damage removed and replaced with 2x4 1/4 wall tube.

rear support.
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6067/passrockertube4wp.jpg

Still need to cap the ends and maybe add another support. It is welded the full length of the door rocker too.

Ok. So after a few 'harder' runs I have gotten tired of dragging that funny rear cross member across stuff and banging my endcaps through the tight stuff. So it has been 'pinched' or 'dove tailed'.
Start
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/5125/dovestart9ng.jpg
Cleaned up some
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/229/rearclean2bo.jpg
No turning back now. You can see I hacked off the end cap and cut a good sized wedge out of the 'step' in the bed.
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/5702/1stcutrear8ef.jpg
Here it is pulled in.
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4410/passidepinch8wc.jpg
Lather, rinse, and repeat on the other side.
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/1097/finishpinchday17bx.jpg

You can see I added a bar that folows the bed rails. Gives it a kinda buggy look. I also ran a long bolt through the outer skin to the inner step, to help hold it together. I'm not gonna cap the ends. I just dont see the point.
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/9335/sidebar5vl.jpg
Finished (for now) with no flaps.
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6032/finrearnoflap5ua.jpg
Figuring out how to put mud flaps and some sort of tire coverage was a real head scratcher. No matter what I thought of it just seemed ghetto, and looked 2x as bad. Finally I just said fuck it and built some gaudy eye sores that will keep me legal.
Lower flaps
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/530/rearflaps2si.jpg
here's the upper coverage. Terry and I both won sets of these at NWB roundup a few yers ago.
http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/8237/rearflapcover0kh.jpg
I know. :rainbow: as hell, but they get the job done.
http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/7764/flapcoverside1kd.jpg
Tail lights were the other big wonder. I just made some plates and attached them to the tire carrier.
http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/3117/rearfinished5uq.jpg
I cant wait to get it out on the trail and see how I go throught the tight stuff!

Nice job pinching the rear, can't wait to see it in the light of day, minus the flaps. I've been watching your semi-exo cage develope and like the way it flows with the body's lines. Are you planning something on the rear cross member to keep it from dragging like you said? I keep looking at mine, thinking I could replace it with something less bulky, like running a square tube above the frame to hold the body.

06-25-2006, 11:13 PM
Thanks. The next couple weeks im gonna try and finish the 'X' on the roof and a few little pieces. As far as the rear cross memeber goes, I had to leave the middle section of the original bolt on one. My rear bumper goes through it and is welded to the frame. So, to get it off I would loose my bumper and carrier. So it stays.

Outside pics, minus homo flaps

funny thing is, from the side, it looks like just the end cap is gone.

I had a whole shit list of stuff to do today but only got about 75% done. I got the roof mostly done. Some crazy compound copes and angles really slowed me down. All I really need is door bars and I'm done with the cage(for now)

Roof bars in.

down bar so the rear of the middle bar wouldnt be a 'dead node'

Windshiled 'V', again for the 'dead node'. Everybody's doing these anyway, right?

Can you get a side shot of that, I'm not sure if the middle bar lands on the little hoop or if it goes to the bar across the windshield.

What's the purpose of the little hoop in the middle anyway?

Yes, it lands on the little hoop, or rainbow as we have effectionately named it. The little hoop is to go around the original windshield hood latch. Some day all this tube might go away and I didnt want to hack the latch off and have to buy a new windshield frame for the hold down.

Getting stuff figured out.

close up of my U-boltless spring perches.

here is a close up of the finished spring perch clamp.

wide shot. finished product. 9/16 grade 8 bolts with top lock nuts AND lock washers just to be safe. 2 1/2 x 1/4 square tube cut down for the base of the perch. 3/8 plate top and bottom. welded in stages, welder set to BURN.

52" chev rears turned around for 6" of wheel base.

How you likeing the No U bolt's?

How you likeing the No U bolt's?

I like it. Probably only a marginal difference over having U-bolts as far as ground clearance goes. But, I like the smooth bottom and one less thing to hit idea.

If/when the 1 tons go in, I'll run U-bolts.
