Yea, my new project, for those of you that don't know, it's a 76 CJ5.
Anyway, I'm starting to take an "inventory" of what I have to do, and what I've gotten myself into. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
I've generated a few questions, hope y'all can help.
Here goes:
First, the steering is SHOT. Manual steering, and it looks like some previous bonehead put in half a steering column from a Nissan? Anyway, seems to me I can just pull a column and wheel from a CJ and it should work, any hints?
Second, I'm 95% sure it's got a T176 in it (not stock), and I would assume that it has a D300 in it. Since I have to pull it anyway, is there a way I can differentiate between a D300 and a D20? Visually.
Third, it's got front drum brakes. Is there an easy conversion (I looked in some of the catalogs, a disc brake conversion is like 900 bucks! :eek <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> Can I swap out from the knuckle outward, or would it be easier to just swap in a D30 from a junkyard?
Last, I'm thinking about doing a lift using YJ springs. Since the front hanger and u-bolt plate are the only things that are 2", can I use a rear spring hanger from a donor and make plates? Seems easy enough if that's correct.
