Just got done replacing manifold gaskets. While I had the manifolds off I decided to remove egr valve (not working), smog pump (seized) and assorted hoses. Got the truck started will not idle without choke. Can someone explain to me what basic lines to run to get it to run and which ones I should plug. The truck is a 1978 FJ40 Stock (except for emissions) I live in NJ and truck had federal emissions on it. Thanks Also I did check Woody's page first!:trooper: :(

It sounds like either you don't have your idle gas solenoid hooked up, or you have a big-time vacuum leak. Obviously, you have to plug the EGR outlet at the base of the carb. The most straight forward thing to do would be to get a non-smog carb and a non-smog distributor, then things will work like they are supposed to.

Take the carb off and have the crack in the bottom of the manifold welded:D
