Hey I was wondering if anybody has ever heard of making a stroker motor from a 305 block and a 350 crank?

I think Speed O Motive has a kit for this. With a 30 over bore it comes out to 334. One of the car magazines did an article a few years ago, but I did not pay that much attention to it to see how it did. I ended up w/ a 305 because I trusted a friend rather than checking it out. (at least I only paid $100 for the whole truck, got at least that much in misc. parts) I have thought about doing it into a stroker just for the Hell of It.

I was just looking over the specs in my hynes manual,, it looks like the 2 have the same crank. But maybe a 400 crank would work. I'm in the same boat. I have 2 305 blocks that are good to go and I was thinking of doing a stroker just to be original. If you have heard of doing this, it is probably possible. I will start calling some of my local speed shops this afternoon. Thanks for the reply.

Not trying to be smart, but why would you want to do this? 350's are a dime a dozen, unless you just want bragging rights:rolleyes:

In some areas the Circle Track racers are snatching up any useable 350 core. This drive up the price. :( Plus, if he has two of them laying around, Might as well try to put them to use rather than taking up space. Especially if you can't unload the thing. I have considered doing the stroker mod to the one I was oh so lucky to acquire :barf: :mad2: But I have a couple other engine build ups that I want to do first. So if I still have the POS 305 laying around at that time, I might consider it. Might go well with some 1/2 ton running gear, and one of those 1/3 scale monster truck bodies. Make a SWEET go cart for the daughters. Beat the pants off their Barbie Jeep.:D

Rodzzilla is right... to be truthful there are a lot of guys hording 350 small blocks right now and with good reason. Maybe not tomaorrow, but give it a few years and they are gonna start become scarace like the 400's are. Even 454's and especially the 455 poncho, olds, and buick blocks are drawing higher prices. 500 Caddys probably have little time left at reasonable prices as well. There is a whole paridime shift going on right now as newer motors are being phased in (Newer, high tech, light weith, gas economy, emissions) and the old push rod motors are being layed to rest. Come 2007 or 2008 I doubt you will see any motors with a camshaft anymore. Also they will be running on 42 volts instead of 12. Idling will become a thing of the past because cars will shut of when you come to a stop and restart when you let off the brake much like the hybrids do now.

All and all it is enough to make me sick... and people ask me why I'm leaving the profession... ha!

Everybody is partially correct. I think it would be cool to have an original motor. Never even heard of anyone doing this combo. However on the practical side I currently have a 305 in my truck with a slight knock when it's warming up. It also burns about 1 litre of oil every 6-700 miles. so I'm pretty sure that this block is good. Also I have a friend that just wrote off his car that had a perfectly running 305, he is going to give me the whole thing for free to get it out of his yard. So that makes 2 good 305 cores. I live in canada so i can still get a rebuildable 350 for about $300 usd. But then I have no history of the motor. I actually still see a few 400 blocks around for reasonable price but since my daily commute is about 120 km. [70 miles] I am just as happy to try to build a torquey motor and keep the cubes down at the same time.
I did confirm that the stroke is the same on a 350 and 305. So it would have to be a 400 crank. I have only spoken to 1 shop so far but I will keep at it. Is anybody else interested in kits or if it is even possible? If so I can post info here. If not thats o.k too.:)

I just don't see the point other than to be different. For the cost of a stroker kit you could get a 350 or 400 block.

Well, like I said I think it would be pretty cool to have an original motor. I am also looking to use as little gas as possible. as this is mostly a highway bound truck I really don't see the need to have a 400 . If anything I would rebuild my 305 throw in a 350 cam aluminum intake and 600 edelbrock. But If I can make a motor produce better torque without using way more gas I'm definitly interested.

Just trying to think outside the box....maybe I should crawl back in there and shut up,,,, like a good newbie:D :D :D :D

Why spend the cash on making a 305 a stroker motor if your worried about gas mileage....Kinda defeats the purpose don't you think? :skull:

Well I'm not necessarily hell bent on this, I was hoping to get some info and opinions on this. So far I've gotten lots of opinions not so much info. But I've been doing some thinking, Why do so many people build 383's when it is probably cheaper to build a real good 350,(I could be wrong) 400 cranks can't be really cheap. As it stands, I spend 2-$300 USF. a month on fuel. so if I can save $2 dollars a day that would theoretically pay for a stroker ..Maybe not though.I was kind of hoping that some one would answer me back to say they did the same combo, and it was really cheap on gas and had tons of torque.
so far no takers though. I reality i will probably do a 305 with a few goodies
