I posted this on general 4x4 discussion but the only replies I got were from people wanting the same answers. Figured more people here are running and buying hummer rims.
Question is : Has anyone bought h1 rims from military auctions? When does the military "condem" their rims? Is it worth my time trying to pick up a set from a government auction or am I in for junk?

Thanks in Advance

It is worth your time. A friend of mine buys them local for about $30 each with tires.

Odd's are you wont get just one set, they usually sell in large lots, like 50 - 100 at a time (someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but its what I've seen). I know it kills me driving around base and seeing stacks of takeoff H1 12 bolt rims with half tread MT's just sitting in piles till they get enough to go to DRMO for auction/disposal. To bad there isnt a way to pick up a set without facing charges as they would work great on my junk for local mud runs.

If you don't want more than a couple sets, Best bet is to find a scrap dealer that buys the steel from the DOD.

The Army has been switching from 8 bolt rims, used for only Bias tires, to the new 12 bolt rims for radial tires. There was an op order for this to be done a while ago, about 2 years ago, but you know the Government does things, but the main reason was to get radial tires on the Hummers before they went over across the pond for the beginning of the current engagement.
So there has been a considerable influx of the 8 bolt rims on the market in the past few years. However the flood has seemed too slowed.
Worst part is I know of a couple DRMO shops that sold the 8 bolt rims as scrap metal (and worst yet is was well before steel prices went up!). The Magnesium run-flats also should have never made it to DRMO, so someone screwed up if you find them.

Got a set at govliquidation.com. Paid 65.00 for a set of four. A local company picked them up for me (50.00) and is shipping them to me. Hope they are ok when they arrive.

Thanks Grandwag. Thats great info.

I read the entire thing and did not learn anything but a lot of those questions are always floating around. I had to learn by gathering info here and there slowly in the past 3 years. Thanks
