What would it take to put a NP205 on a '96 GMC Z-71 with a 4L60E tranny?? The reason I am asking is I want to do a SFA swap with Dana 60 on the truck and chevy right side axles seem to be easier to find than the Ford left sides. So I figured if I changed the transfer case I could just bolt a 'regular' Chevy front axle on.
What do you think??
Thanks

The 4l60-e replaced the 700r4, so i would think that all you would need is a 205 that was behind the th350 auto, and change the output shaft on your tranny.

You may not even need to change the output shaft. The 350 is 27 spline, so is the 700R4 and the 4L60E. The 4L60E may just bolt up to the 205 with the 350 adapter.

Very true, but the shaft is too long to just bolt it up. You will either need to buy a spacer or the shaft.

Is the spline length long enough you could just cut the shaft to the correct length and still have enough spline engagement. Since it's the end of the shaft there would be no stress riser.

I took some crude measurements one day and ended up with only about 1/2" to 1" of splines would be left on the shaft.
I really would not trust that much, but if you want to try it, give it a shot and let us know how you make out.

This kinda falls into the if it works great, if it breaks you needed to swap the output shaft anyway catagory.

Very true. I guess it would be up to how easy you think it is to tear the tranny back out, and how far from home you were when it broke too.:D
