Well was thinking how beat my TTB is and was thinking of doing the Solid axle conversion. Should I look for an older ford with the coil setup or should I just slap on a set of leaf springs? Which is better and which is easier??

Thanks

see my thread on flexiest leafs theres some good info in there. btw i just bought me a pair of coils to use on my front suspension- long, lots of wraps, and $5 for four, how can you beat it :smokin:

Depends on a few different variables:

First, what do you plan on putting in place of the ttb?

Second, what kind of fabrication skills do you hav ie welder?

Third, what do you do with your rig??

If it were me, I'd stay coil sprung, no matter what I was going to swap under to replace my ttb. Hell in the future I plan on 2.5 ton rockwells, and i'm going to coil spring those.

As far as what is easier that is going to depend on what you are putting in place. If it is simply a solid axle dana 44 out of a 78-79bronco then coil spring will be relatively simple. Although you'll need some lift to clear the swap. If you are putting a leaf sprung front then IMO staying leafs would be easiest, but not most beneficial.

My .02 cents

Check out Nobody's BII it's got a nice swap done on it. He used coils and a twister arm up front for loads of flex from the looks of it.

Personally I would stay with coils, you got them don't mess with the leafs... LOL

I would say that is good info check out Matt's site http://broncoii4x4.dynu.com/. He basically has the exact same setup I do for drivetrain and suspension and when he gets his rear done they will be frightenly similar (he built his and I built mine then we met). But the big thing that makes the decision is what do you want to do with it.

I agree that leafs are simple sick. But ultimately it's a boxers or briefs discussion, as someone said in the General forum when another pissing match erupted over ARB or Detroit. I just put a leaf-sprung D60 under the front of my '90 Bronco and it was cake. Not to say coils would be super-difficult either.... boxers, or briefs?

I've got leafs with my D44 in my bronco II. No complaints from me. Simple and effective, plus it's easy to experiment with different spring rates by building hybrid leaf packs.

Yeah, I agree w/that. You can just pick up several leaf packs from the local 'yard, then mix and match. Add different lenths, redrill center pin holes if necessary (not fun but do-able), cut 'em down, taper them, whatever. Not that swapping coil springs is difficult, just expensive :p
