So I inboarded the springs on the rear of my chevy and put in a 1 ton rear end. After all this work on the first test drive the front shakes like a fat women on roller coaster. I also put 38.5x16" swampers on it. The rear wheels are 15x10 and the fronts are 15x8. What do you all think is causing the horrible shake. It happens at about 30 mph or so. DO you think that the shake could be caused by such a big tire on such a small wheel?

your spring bushings, that is what I think since you asked. Make sure they are tight as a vir.. well damn tight

as long as all the work you did was on teh rear there should be no reason for the front to shake like that.....
check for proper alignment of the rear springs...if one is at a slightly different angle than the other / l that may cause a wobble origonating in the rear.....

I had this problem in my tj before. I hope this helps you; I had the front aligned did not work changed wheel beerings did not work, checked castor camber all in spec, well something that i did not think of my steering stabilizer was bad.... I do not know if you have on on your Chevy??? If you do check it out if no look into putting one on! Those big tires are almost not true and have alittle wobble in them so that is sometimes why they shake! hope this helps you out....

I would say the first step is to remove the 38's and run it with the original tires if you have them laying around? that way you eliminate the work you did on the rear as a cause of the problem, then check everything for tightness, block the wheels against a high curb and have someone wiggle the wheel side to side while you are under looking for play. the steering dampner is a good idea but it tends to cover the problem, make the wobble go away then install the dampner.

1. Bent rim?
2. Tow?
3. Ball joints, either worn out or need to be tightened (drag link, tie rod, check everything)
4. U-bolts in the front
5. Lugnuts
Just a few things I have encountered before.

The big tires can muliply any play you have in your steering system. A steering dampner will help. try swapping tires front to back.

Thanks for the help guys. Is there any chance that the very wide 16" tires on the small 8"wheels could be makeing it shake. This is really more than a shake it is a death wobble. When i get to speed the thing shakes so bad i have to slow her down. I never had a problem with it shaking when i had 35" :rainbow: thornbirds on it. I have done nothing else to the front other than differant wheels and tires. Later

I really doubt it, wide rims tend to cause problems but not narrow ones, if anything they should cause less wobble.
