HOW IN GODS NAME ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GET THIS BITCH OUT ????
I am replacing the clutch and besides the fun involved with a salt belt vehicle (3 bolts per side of the X-member is fine right? well because thats all thats going back in :mad3: ) and the Amigo has taken blood in sacrifice.
How the fuck do you get to the top bolt on the starter? i can barely get my hand in there to FEEL it never mind get a wrench in there?

Seems like a long extension was the way to go. Attack from in front of the a-arm. Or was it from up above with a swivel? It's been a while (knock on wood), so I am not positive.

i dont have a body lift
I pulled the battery and i am attacking with 2 feet of extention, a wobble and some duct tape (to hold it together) I will report back later

The body lift only came into play when trying to sneek the starter between the body and the frame. The trick to get the nut loosened should work regardless. It might even be a bit easier for you without the ARB compressor in the way.

trick is:
2 12inch extentions, 1 wobble thingie, 14 m deep socket.
Remove the battery, assemble everything BUT putting the ratchet on, visualy see the top nut by placing your head on the fender, one hand under the intake, other hand in front of the steering pump, snake the crap under the intake avoiding ripping out valuable vacuum lines, and put the ratchet on after you get it on the nut.

I'm about to start Rescue training at work, so I will post a step by step list on tranny removal when I get done. It'll be around 9pm PST, tonight as I've done alot of Isuzu Tranny removals. Call me Mr. Nice guy, who can't say no to helping others Isuzoids out.

its out.
funny how things will move when you put a come-a-long on the rear output to the axle
I have done HUNDREDS of tranmissions and this is the only one i have EVER been this much of a bitch

Engine tips, tranny binds on input and dowels. Makes it a PITA.
Best method, tested by many, is to put your front feet on either the body mounts or front tires. Then you have to sing the barney song while shaking and pulling the tranny in every possible direction.
Sounds stupid, but it works.

Yeap. I've swapped several I-4 Isuzu trannies, and they're the only ones that I've ever used a come-a-long with. On the 2.3's, I always removed the distributor to access the high starter bolt. BTW........I used the come-a-long to install the tranny as well. And go ahead and dope the flywheel bolts really high with locktite. They like to leak if you don't. Some people criticize using too much, but I've found torque-to-yield will leak if I'm stingy with the red stuff.
And don't forget that motorcycle straps through the frame rails help quite a bit when trying to maneuver that transmission through the clutch cogs with no other support.

Glad you got it out, I won't bother with the instructions then. Oh, and Michael speaks the truth! I do the tranny shake/cuss/foot dance when I remove or install my tranny.

I was going nuts trying to find that "lost bolt" that i knew was holding it in there.
Loveday: it seems like the factory put enuf threadlocker to kill somebody in there as it is  took FOREVER to get the crank bolts out.
Well today i put the fucker back in, lets see what changes

They are not TTY. It is smart to replace them and locktite is definately required to prevent leaks, but they are not designed as TTY.
