I have a 91 ford F-250 single cab with a 4.9 5spd. dual tanks and all that good stuff. I am about to 90,000 with it and after braking the trany and not real happy witht the highweigh speeds (3000 rpm at 70mph) I am thinking about selling it for another truck.
what do ya'll think its worth, what do ya'll think I should look for (nothing fancy just a cheep DD/tow rig fo about the same price range as what the ford is)
thies are some pix of it. it is super dirty from being at the scrap yard.

It all depends on your budget and what/how often you are towing.
Even a 6.2/6.5L GM Diesel is probably going to tow your junk better than your Ford. My suggestion would be to find an early 90s diesel for relatively cheap, and spend another $700 on an early 90s Toyotanissanhonda :D
As far as how much is your truck worth? KBB says about $1300 in fair condition (private party)

Lol, that's a big difference in price, though I did go with the bare minimum of options.
What are you willing to spend to replace it? If you don't have any extra cash, I doubt you'll do any better than what you have. You should be able to find a decent GM Diesel 4x4 for $4K. It should tow better, and get similar gas mileage (better towing). I don't care for them personally, but that's what I would get in that situation.
From what I understand, you should be able to get about 11-12mpg towing, compared to what, 7-8 in your Ford? You won't get any more than about 16 or 17 unloaded though (some may debate this one...)
Good luck with it man, hope you find a truck that works for you.

yah I know it wont be much (Im jus an poe taxes boy) but I am going to be doing some lng highway pulls this summer, and not realy looking forward to 7 hours at 3000 rpm and a 6000lbs load.
I use to have 92 dodge with a 318. I loved that truck and am thinking about getting another what do ya'll think? not just the 318 maybe a 12 valve or 360?

it sounds like the only thing your not happy about is the rpms at speed?
but really, there is nothing wrong with spining that motor at 3K all day long.. unless your mileage is really suffering or something(I doubt)
My truck is identical, only a 4x4, and with 3.54 gears.. Mine spins about 1900 at 65mph, and 2300@ 70mph..
come to think of it, your 3000rpm @ 70 doesn't calculate right.. with 4.10's, you should only be spinning around 2400rpm @ 70rpm...?
as for mileage, mine gets around 18 empty, and 10-12 towing, I would assume yours gets the same?

to tell you the truth I dont know the exact RPM but I figured it was arount 3K cause my foot is preaty far into it and I can barly reatr over the ror of the motor. I dont know it just is not the most nerveasy driver. also with a load it does not stay up to speed very well. (might just need a new clutch)

Don't start thinking a non-turbo Chevy diesel is better. I have one... it isn't. :D
You can swap in a tall-ratio axle to drop the rpms... the big i6's don't mind... especially so with a manual trans.
IMO the only thing I'd consider to replace an i6 rig, is with a turbodiesel or a bigblock.

I dont know the more I think about it the more I want my dodge back. I may just test the water and keep my eyes out for a good deal.
ya just swap the gears out in it to bring hte rpms down.
