: 13'' lift with 44 boggers not enough lift

Well I just put 13'' of lift on my 1980 dodge 1/2 ton 4x4 and its not quite enough. I put on a set of chevy 10'' springs a 3'' body and I even put in new polly body mounts. The truck clears the tires but there isnt quite enough room for flex or when turning the tires might rub. Now I dont know if I should go with a smaller tire, cut the fenders or add a couple inches of lift. What do you all think?

break out the sawzall.... should be plenty of metal to cut away to make room

weld some 2x3 box to the spring pads on the axle to be like permanent blocks to get more lift, or maybe do the same with the body to get more body lift.

then go get some 10 bolts to go with those cheby springs, they are super hardcore

make sure while you are out getting supplies you get a lot of armor all for the tires

Well I forgot to mention, I just had it painted and it a clean truck. So I would rather stay away from cutting. Maybe another 2'' of lift will do the trick.

While I thought this was funny, you might want to realize that there are people out there stupid enough to actually act on those suggestions. Just a point to ponder.

As for the fitting, get smaller tires if you don't want to trim. I had 6" and 38's (fender cutting too) on my '75 and it was on the verge of being too tall.

Get some nice fender flares, and have them painted to match. Otherwise, go with 40's.

Looks like i might drop the spring hanger down 3'' or 4'' and add some fender flairs.

dont be go off doing anything crazy. first thing you should do is hit your truck with something....anything doesnt really matter if its a hammer or a empty jack daniels bottle. that should take care of any concern of whether or not the paint is shiny or not. this is especially true if you downed the jack daniels. second, after you've sobered up, instead of lowering your hangers down to create more lift, leave the hangers as is, and take off the body lift, and sell them on ebay. then take a couple leaves out of the spring pack all the way around. this should establish your ride height. then break out the sawzall. might want to break out some more JD, then go to town. cut what ever is necessary to fit what ever size tire you need. hell, with this time proven method, you could fit 49's on there. after all is said and done, you could actually be left with a respectable looking ride. and a couple weeks from now you'll look back at this and wonder like the rest of us....why the hell do you need 13 inches of lift to fit 44's or any other tire?

heh, 13" eh? you must really want a mall-crawler. do as everyone said, remove half the lift and start hacking those fenders, it will look better then a lifted truck with tires bigger then the wheel wells

for starters, this isnt for rockclimbing. Its being built for mud and snow. So for this, smaller isnt better. Bigger is better. I am looking to go where I want in this madder. So all of you who like to cut your rigs to hell feel free to do so. I on the other hand like how my truck looks. If it was used for rockclimbing then sure a lower center of gravity would be best. Not the deal here.

not to be a dick but youll find out, i used to have a BII that i lifted 4" yeah 4" and i rolled it in the mud, so even tho your not a BII your still real high and you might roll hopefully you wont but mud is even tricky specialy when you hit a rock in the middle or something

I flopped a Chevy that had a 13" lift and 39.5's on it... in the mud. Now it has about 5 or 6" with the same tires. Had 44's on it for a while w/ 6" too.

I'm about to put 39.5's on a late model Dodge with about 7" lift. This truck had no stratch or dent on it when I bought it, and I keep it clean. You can cut the fenders ALOT and still have them look very clean. Just plan ahead.

Uncle's mud-racers are both very low to the ground... hmm

Your rig is too tall. If you are building it for ANY kind of wheeling it needs to be LOWER.:shaking:

I hope the 10 bolt/d44 question was for a different project? If you are asking that question, you don't want 44s. Also, if 13" of lift isn't enough, you need smaller tires.

This is a rock crawling board by the way, with some rock racing. There is good tech here for some aspects of all off-roading, except mall crawlin.

You seriously need to re-visit your goals on this project. If its a true mud runner, lower it some, cut some fenders, (or swap to a Dakota body). If its a show truck, you might try a new board.

Alright, I'll be the first to say that while it does say "extreme rockcrawling" at the top of the page, this forum does not purely deal with rockcrawling. This place is the definitive source for good tech on the web, bar none. If you want to learn anything about 4x4, you come here.

That being said, if you have a 13" lift, 44's, and a d44 front, you will breaking shit all the time unless the truck never leaves the mall parking lot.
