Anyone have any tips for swappin in a 97 vortec 350 into an 85 cj-7?

Painless wiring kit, use the correct adapters, buy the correct parts, and it should be easy. Also, what tranny are you going to use? Make sure it is a good one.

Make sure you have a lot of time....and a good dry spot to work on it....We are 'assuming' you have some mechanical experience...if not, then don't even try it.

Issues you will have to deal with.....
1. Motor mounts - I prefer Novak over the AA setup
2. Wiring - Painless makes some kits for the newer motor...but it is not hard to modify the existing harness. I'm assuming you already have the engine...if it does not have a tranny, you may have issues. Most of the newer engines used the same comptuer for both the engine and tranny. Unless you use a new comptuer, you want the same tranny that was used with the engine.
3. Besides the Engine and tranny and wiring harness...you will need the VSS buffer and OBDII connector. You will also need to add more fuses to your system.
4. Radiator
5. Electric fan - Mechanical is just tooo hard to make work.
6. Electric fuel pump and high pressure lines to and from the tank.
7. Tranny to xfer case adapter (I used Novak)
8. Shorter driveshaft - If you don't have a CV ds, then plan on getting one.
9. Modified transmission crossmemeber.
10. New shifter
11. Engine and tranny cooler along with lines.
12. $$$$ I paid $500 for my engine and tranny....I have 3 times that in misc stuff....and that is not including the paint job.

Personally, I would plan on pulling the tub...makes it a lot easier to redo all the fuel lines, set the engine, weld in the motor mounts. This is how I ended up doing a frame up restor...
