I have a Porter Cable 7.5hp 80 gallon compressor and I want to change the oil. It looks fine but why not. Can I run a different oil than the recommended compressor oil? Anything to make it last a little longer and run a little smoother would be great.
Also Im getting sick of how loud it is. Has anyone changed there muffler to something quieter?
Its a two stage.

Oil wont quiet it down any, just refil with what the recommend... usualy its mobile Rarus 427, but I dont know exactly what PC recommends.
Compressors dont have mufflers, did ya mean intake silencers? They help some, because most of the noise forma compressor is from the sucking of air into the pump rather than the actual pumping. The best thing to do is plumb the intakes outside, but you cant use hose (unless its vacuum hose), you need to use like PVC or Conduit or something like that. Quincy sells and intake silencer, but its HUGE and its really expensive.

Thanks Jim, I just thought it looked like a small muffler that is coming off the cylinder. Guess I should have thought about it a little instead of assuming. Hmmm. Ill have to see what I can come up with. I would like to just stick the whole compressor outside so I had more room but then I gotta biuld a shed for it.
