: Coilovers on a YJ

I'm SOA right now and have no complaints but coilovers are really getting to me now. This is going on a travel Jeep, we travel all over the US/Mexico in it so it has to keep the on-road stability. Is there a kit currently in production for this mod or is anyone running it and have a writeup? Any information basically would be great.

Thanks!

Last I heard, Black Diamond/Warn sold the rights to their set up - but I can't recall to who. I know someone that has this set up and it's pretty awesome.

Procomp, Ect. = Coil conversion
King, Ect. = coilover

Superlift bought the rights. No dates on production. <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep2.gif" border="0">

I think that Pro Comp is the only company offering a coil conversion for a YJ right now. It is bolt on, with just a little drilling. Gets you 5 inches of lift good for 33.12.5s. You do need an SYE kit and I don't think that it comes w/ sway bar disconnects.

Macromotive.com had an ad in JP mag this month with it for $1335.

I am looking at this kit too, but take a good look at it, the brackets for the control arms hang pretty low, and you can only use the stock axles.

happy building.

Sorry don't have a huge amount of money to spend. I just love the idea of not having springs anymore but the Jeep is so modified that I could never get a TJ.

I did find this: http://www.avalancheengineering.com/parts/suspension/coilover/coilover_partlist.htm

But it looks like I would have to do all the fab stuff myself as all you get is coilovers.

I think I saw an ad for a coilover kit in a mag. a few months ago. Can't remember who it was. Maybe Tompkin Machine?

The bug got me too... I went from SOA to coilovers using race runners in the front and 1/4 ellipticals with coil overs in the rear. Flexes great and the rear coil overs actually help pushing down the rear wheels.

I'm just the opposite. If I were keeping my TJ I would look at ways to convert to leafs up front. It's just too many negative quirks for my liking.

My CJ will be a simple SOA but lately I have been tinkering with the idea of putting the leafs under the axle and shaving a ton of sheet metal to run the desired 38" TSL SX's.

'Keep it simple' is my new motto!

several people on this board have used stuff from avalanche for there suspension, and all of them said it was a waste of money on parts that didnt fit like they were suposed to. Also the avalanche stuff is all pretty puny

I would love to see more pics of your setup. I am toying with the idea of coilovers and am looking for ideas for link design etc...

Do you think the coilovers were worth all the effort?

Besides fabbing up brackets for the coilovers what else needs to be done for this modification.

I saw a guy this past weekend with that setup, I was getting beter clearance with my YJ SUA. It should be a sin to sell it.

I am SOA now, I wouldnt change even if I had the money for coilovers... gets me where I need to. no complaints

Avalanche SUCKS!!!!! Do not use their stuff. It is cheaper and easier to make your own setup. A 4 link is cake to make, and all it takes is positioning the coiovers in their right location. If you can fabricate, you can piece this together.

Thanks for the endorsement, but sucking is not one of the services we offer. Could you please pass on the cake recipe for the easy- bake 4 link, I have not found one that was universal for every rig. Thanks, Clifton :jeep:

So you say that there is not a single universal 4 link setup, but you guys sell one?!?!?!?!?! Please explain that one to me. I have a few buddies that bought your setup from Avalanche, and when he saw it, he wated to return it. You guys would not take the return at all. I mean this product was not even used?!?!?!?!? I really like the work that is done there, but not the products that are sold. And yea a 4 link is pretty cake to do. I never even looked at one, and I got mine to work just fine. If someone wants to fab their stuff up I say go for it. The one thing that pisses me off about Avalanche is the Customer Service, it ranks right up there with All Pro Off Road. They have some cool Shiat, but just lack on the customer SErvice aspect.
