I am plannin on getting a 231 out of a TJ. for my YJ but I don't know if it will work. My question is will the 231 out of a 2000 TJ with the 3 speed automatic work in a YJ with the 5 speed manual? Please let me know.

chances are you'd have to change the input shaft, might be different spline count and/or different length. That's not too tough, just a bitch to do from what I understand. Pull your's count the teeth measure the length then check out the one on the TJ.

The slpines will match both 23...but the TJ 231 from the auto will have a longer input shaft.

i believe one is 21 spline, one is 23 spline. you want the easy way to figure it out? call teraflex and tell them what you are doing and that you want to buy a 4.1 kit. the 4.1 kit will come with the input shaft in it for the correct setup, and all will be happy. thus, you get your correct input shaft without too much hassel, and while your at it you get a 4.1 kit.

They will both be 23 spline!!!

so which is it? Are the both the same length and same spline count? I am dealin with lack of money supply and I am getting this at a good deal. So a 4:1 kit is not an option. Thanks for the help thus far.

6-cylinder Wranglers have 23 spline input, 4-cylinder Wranglers have 21 spline input... Don't know about the shaft length for sure myself...

I am going to assume that because they are the same Tcase that the length is the same. The main issue I think was the spline count. Does anyone else know for sure if the length of the shaft is the same?

no newbie see that's where you're wrong, there are 3 input shaft lengths that came on 231's short med and long. It could be either one of those. My t-case had a long input but the one I bought to swap had a medium. The guy who I bought it from had 3 231's they ALL had different input shaft lengths, assuming that since it's a 231 it has one set input shaft length could get you in a world of shit. Though you might be lucky and they could be the same.

alright thanks that is good to know. Is there any way of knowing the length of the inuput shaft on the TC without taking it out of the car? Something on the outside of it maybe?

On my ZJ there was no way of telling, honestly ask on JU they might know.
