does anyone have a exssecive vavle tic on the isuzu 3.2 v6 during start up? mine (93 rodeo) has it a bit when you first start it up cold, then after a minute or so it goes away. Im guessing it has hydrolic lifters in it (although I havent looked at the service manual yet). is there any fix for it, or "forgetaboutit. it wont hurt nothing!"
scott.
short answer is that it won't hurt anything. You can get into great detail to fix the problem by doing a search on 4x4wire.com where tons of people have posted their problems and solutions. Solutions are typically seafoam engine cleaner, running 0w30 oil, etc. Problem occurs due to varnish buildup in the hydrolic lifters

Scott,
I've had the same problem-as many others have with the first gen 3.2 (SOHC)s. I have been able to keep it at bay by adding "Restore-6" during oil changes. The Haynes manual says "adding a higher viscosity oil to the crankcase can sometimes cure a stuck lifter problem" or something of that nature. I believe the true root of this particular problem has to do with the valve-lash adjuster wearing. The good news, as Chris stated, is that it should'nt cause any serious damage. It is certainly a pain in the ass to have to listen to though! Any increase in the frequency and sound is probably an indication however, that your valve train is showing signs of wear and eventually will need some type of servicing. Hope this helps...

that's right valve lash adjusters, I don't think these engines even have lifters...

I've got a 93 5 speed with the same problem, its been doing it for well over a year probably closer to 2 and the mechanic we take it to says not to even bother with it.

Isuzu says to run Mobil One OW-30...some have reported success with this, others have not.
