: Anyone using a klune-v?

I was thinking about using one in my 86 Jimmy. My current setup is 350, 700r4, 208, and 4.56 gears. I was going to go doubler, but if I use the klune-v and a 241 I would get alot lower crawl ratio? Any body out there using one, I want to hear how they hold up and if they are worth it, or just do the doubler. I would use the Goliath one since it holds up to more power.

Thanks Dan

So let me make sure that this is clear:

You want to put in a gear multiplying devise (Klune) which will put more torque on your t-case. But your going to replace your Piece of shit 208 with another turd, the 241?

I run a 4:1 Klune and it works great. 392-727-Klune-205.
HIGHLY recomend the 205. Preferably 32 spline.:)

I have a 32 spline round 6 bolt pattern 205 that I bought to use with a klune-v setup. Budget cuts have forced me to go with a 203/205 doubler. I will not be using the above mentioned 205 if your interested in it let me know.
By the way the cheapiesst that I found the Klune-v for was $1600 at Tri county gear. Can anybody beat that price?

hey Dan,

i have some good answers for you about the Goliath from my personal experience:-
1) with an NP- 241 + 700r4 + 4.56 gears + Goliath you are going to have a very good(maybe too good) crawl ratio. it goes like this-
3.06 x 2 x 2.72 x 2.72 x 4.56 = 206.5 crawl ratio
this is the multiplication of your auto trans first gear x the multiplication factor of the torque converter x the 241 low x the Goliath ratio x your axle ratio.
you wo'nt have to use the Goliath all the time. when you do'nt need it, just shift it back and you'll have your normal t-case in action, since the Klune-V gets back to it's 1:1 ratio.

2) the Klune-V products are very well built. i tried both the David and the Goliath, which is much stronger - up to 3000ft/lb of torque input. that means that if your motor gives 300 ft/lb and your torque multiplies it by 2 and the trannie's first is 3.06, you get incoming torque of 300 x 2 x 3.06 = 1836 ft/lb, planty of input torque to spare.

3) Klune-V gives you two years of full warranty. i had a problem with my David and the minute they heard about it, they took it back and upgraded me to a Goliath, with no charge!!

4) you will absolutely going to love having a low low crawl ratio. i used to have a 300:1 which was'nt very practical, but the higher gears of 180:1, 110:1, 90:1, and 75:1 were just great.

5) i see that you runn 35"s, so you will have no problem whatsoever with your Goliath. it can handle much bigger tires.

6) if you have no problem with your rear driveshaft's length, you wo'nt have any other problem. i think the Jimmy has plenty of room for a Goliath without having a driveshaft length problem.

7) i agree that you would be better off with an NP-205 = it is MUCH stronger and it would be better for the crawl ratio, because you will then have -
3.06 x 2 x 2.72 x 1.96 x 4.56 = 149:1 which is just beautiful!!

8) just one thing to remember WELL - with that 2.72 additional low ratio and lockers on(especially the front one), the torque coming to the wheels is incredible. it will chew everything on it's way easily and twist axleshafts/u-joints/hubbs/etc, in notime. if you want to really figure what that means, here is the calculation -
300ft/lb x 3.06 x 2 x 1.92(NP 205) X 2.72 X 4.56 = 44,634 ft/lb(!!!) at the wheels. devide it by 4 and you'll get 11,158 ft/lb at each wheel. cool, right?
so drive it gently and feel every pips & sound.

conclusion = go for the 205 and most definitely GO for the Goliath,
but take it easy with the gas pedal.

good luck
