So how do cutting brakes work? I am guessing you lock one rear tire and then do a front burn to turn on that tire like a pivot.

Can you make cutting brakes work on a rig that can't be shifting into fwd?

Just was reading a thread in gen 4x4 and the concept sounded pretty interesting.

Especially for my long ass full bodied rig on NE trails. I can use all the turning ability I can get (without any major mods).

you got the idea

you could do it if you had an ARB in the rear so it could be fully open during cut. It just puts more stress on your setup...

Do you need to be in FWD to do it? Could you pull it off with an ARB while in 4wd?

Bueller? Any first hand info, I did a search. No one was really specific about needing a driveshaft disconnect or FWD.

Basically he's saying, if you have an ARB or an open diff in the rear you could stay in 4wd to do it. It just puts more stress on the drivetrain.:p

Every rig I've seen with cutting brakes had the ability to run either front wheel drive only or rear wheel drive only.

i.e. lock front right tire and use rear wheel drive to pivot around front right.

i just went over this a while ago, im currently working on my rig to make this possible, twin sticking my t-case (np205) and working on a 2 pedal braking system. but if you wanna truely be able to make those sharp turns your going to need a twin stick setup. i see them in action all the time neat when you see a 79 f250 sitting in the parking lot with the front tires spinning and smoking, so many people were confused, lol.

good luck
