Can I use these tires for my tow rig? I can get a set of Swampers with load rating C for cheap, but I am not sure I can use these. I have a 99 CTD quadcab shortbed, 4x4. I need new tires, and these are cheap. Thanks

Don't be that concerned with C, D, E....
Read the load rating - actual weight. If it's not enough for your weight, go higher.

In general though, I would say no.
Anymore I put nothing less than load rating E on a truck. They wear longer and seem to be up for more urban abuse than the C rated tires.

I agree, to an extent.
Usualy the number of plys goes up with the load rating.
But yeah, the load range C gumbo mudders on my wheeler are rated for almost what the load range E's on my tow rig are rated for.

The load range has to do with the plies in the sidewall. An E rated tire will simply be more stable. This being said, I DID go from an E-rated 245/70R17 to a D-rated 315/70R17 and my weight rating technically went up, but there is definately more sidewall flex and less side-to-side stability. If you don't tow real heavy I don't see a problem, but guys running close to their GVWR will REALLY see a difference.

Also check "plys" vs "Ply rating".
