I know I know, GO DIESEL!!

Unfortunately the budget wont allow that at this time.

Did see a nice 99 F250 on the way home, Reg cab. reg box, 4x4 with the Triton engine.

Would this be suitable for tow use? Plans do include a lightweight slide in camper and a EB (4200 lbs +/-) on a 18' flatdeck out back.

Which Trition engine? V8? V10? If its the small V8, you'd be a little heavy for that engine. The V10 will do it I'm sure, but the fuel economy with that kind of load will be shitty.

You might hold out for an older Powerstroke (96-98) or Dodge Cummins in a similar price range. If you're not in a hurry, wait until some little old man puts his up for sale, and score a sweet truck for a sweet price...

the only gas engine I'd consider in that truck for you're talking about is the v10 and from what I've heard the "lightweight" slides are not too light weight but will when loaded ready to go somewhere are going to put you @ the GVW for that rig, or over it w/ the 5.4.

reklund5 pointed out a good option you can pick up the 94-97 powerstrokes for at least in the ballpark of what you're looking to pay.

Depending on where you live it will tow just fine. A ton of people tow with gassers and get by just fine. You might be lacking a little in power and get dogged down on the hills but who cares. Gassers are cheeper and usually cost a fair amout less to keep on the road then a diesel.
