Just picked truck 2weeks ago drove to get flatbed put then as I pulled into the trailer place the P/S pump started growling !Checked fluid was full .Truck has 80 miles on it . Got truck last thursday no noise til about 10 minutes So I dropped at the dealer last friday they put a Pump in it and still had the noise . When I had the truck the noise would go come and go while I steered it so I told the dealer that and he said he talked to FORD engineer they said bad pump still got noise the engineer said put in a pressure hose. So I told the service writer that its the Gearbox , well the engineer tell us what to do . then we argued a little and then I called the saleman I got truck from and told to get this straight so He got a truck out of stock and told them to change the box. So tommorrow hopefully I get it back trying to put miles on it before glamis t-day .Just worried that this truck is cursed and that should of kept My 99CTD .
What problems has everyone had with these 6.0 ?

Just about every Ford truck has a growling pump.
My '04 F250 (new) had that problem, so does my '01 F350. In the 01 F350 I put in half a bottle of Lucas power steering "stuff" and it helped a lot.

04 F-Series/Excursion Power Steering Noise:
Some trucks may exhibit a moan or grunt noise from the power steering when turning the steering wheel, usually more pronounced on left turns. The noise may sound like it's coming from the steering gear or column. Replace the hydraulic pressure line running from the brake hydroboost to the steering gear, and the return line running from the gear to the cooler. Take care to prevent any debris from entering the hydraulic system.

Return line: 4C3Z-3A713-A

I'm just gonna have to say you shoulda kept the Cummins. The interior of that Ford sure must be a lot nicer, but you gave up a real engine for a toy
But then again, I'm biased :flipoff2:

Woulda, coulda shoulda,- isnt the Cummins (and other good engines) an option on the F650?? to go that far and still get a stroke???
The big trucks weigh so much more- to get one with a baby truck diesel with screamin R&P is kinda silly.

The newer 06s have a LOT less problems than the older ones.

Our new F550 6.0L 4x4 at work has been problem-free so far. It has about 500mi on it. I personally don't like the small footwell on the passenger side, but otherwise I guess it's ok. I also feel that bucket or split bench type seats are a must in any SuperDuty. If an average driver has the bench seat adjusted to where he can drive comfortably, the passenger is eating the dash. the groan was real bad like the stereo as load as possible didn't cover it . well the dealer swap everything and the problem was the return line . And for the cummins comments my CTD truck blew 5 transmission and left me in the desert 30 miles from anything and It won't pull a 20k 3 car hauler legally .My CTD hauled ass pulled 40 foot motorhomes out at PIsmo but Needed a bigger hauler for new business venture.

I`m realy liking the grunt of the 6.0 but turbo lag is a BITCH in the 6.0 compared to the 7.3 it seems. Gotta wait tell 1700-1900 rpm then it picks up, atleast when it picks it IT PICKS UP

this 550 has 488 gears so there is not much turbo lag

Not sure where you get that "turbo lag" with the 6.0L @ 1700-1900... The "fun" doesn't begin 'til 1600 or higher on my 7.3L.

My pump started growling with about 10k miles. Changed the fluid over to Mobil 1 Synthetic tranny fluid and quiet ever since plus easier steering. 112k now.

don't floor it, roll into it, they build boost faster that way ;) or if your at a light, just bring it up to about 900rpm in a powerbrake, comes on strong from a dead stop ;)
of course having bigger injector's in mine did help with lag too ;)

If I am reading you correctly...he has an F-550, which is still the "pickup" sized truck. No cummins available.

Yes they are talking about an F-550 in here, but he asked if the F-650 was available with a Cummins or not.
The F-650 is available with a Cummins ISB. I'm not sure what all engines were available in them but I have seen one with a ISB and an Allison 2500 tranny.
