: Edelbrock carb, stock motor, what do I need?
Rerock 11-10-2005, 05:45 AM I'm new to carbs, haven't worked with them before so here goes...
I picked up an Edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm electric choke) last night for the '86 K10. Got the Q-jet off and started swapping fittings and whatnot over. WEnt to put the carb on, and the bolt holes don't line up, and there is a gap on the front side of the of the carb and intake. It looks like I need an adapter plate to bolt the carb on. Anyone know off hand which one I need? I know I can find out, but I thought someone might be able to show off their carb prowess and vomit some info this way. I also need to get the studs to hook up the the linkages. A P/N for those would be helpful, or do you typically change out the socket onthe end of the throttle cable? Thanks!
45acp 11-10-2005, 06:01 AM You need a spreadbore to squarebore carb adapter. Also, you are really really going to regret going from a Qjet to an Eddie if you do any kind of wheeling. Trust me.
dubbyx 11-10-2005, 07:53 AM When you really start hating that edelbrock and decide to rebuild it, put in the spring loaded needle and seat kit (pn1465). makes the carb a whole lot more tolerant to angles, bouncing, etc...

This truck is the two rig. Only "offroad" it'll see is getting in/out of the campgrounds. Thanks on the adapter. Looked on Edelbrocks web site and found it. Found one local with that P/N. Now I just need to find the damn studs for the throttle and kick down cables.
GMCTruxrule 11-10-2005, 02:16 PM Adapters suck and although they are the "cheap" solution to putting a square bore carb on a spreadbore intake, spend the money (something around $180 or less) and get an aluminum squarebore dual plane manifold. You will be glad you did.
Rerock 11-10-2005, 02:28 PM One step at a time my man, one step at a time. This winter's project is a drivetrain and axle swap for this truck, so I'm pretty much limping it by until then. This 350 will get taken out and built for the wheeler, so one thing at a time. Once this motor's out, it will prolly get stroked.

X2.... Edelbrock is fine for a hotrod, but as a wheeler carb thay suck !
a few years back I tried one. I even put the off-road needle and seat kit in it.
After two trips out, Put my Q-jet back on !! run as fast as you can back to where you bought it from and give it back ! it's like he said^^^ Trust me.

Or a cast iron one for less than 20.00:flipoff2:
coolmudrunner 11-10-2005, 04:34 PM I have found that my demon carb is a pretty good on-road/off-road carb. It also has way better fuel milage that the preveious edelbrocks and holleys I have had in the past. Well worth the extra money.

been wondering about that myself... which one did you get/replace?

what kind of increase in fuel mileage are we talking about? You aren't the first person I have heard talking about how good demons are...now that you sparked my curiosity...tell me more....

I went from a 600 edelbrock performer series to a 625 road demon
Edelbrock gave me about 8mpg, demon gets 10 This is on a stock 454.
My dad was running a 600 holy vacume secondary 4barrel and switched to a 525 road demon,
He also went from about 7mpg to 10-11mpg, on an altered stock 350
These milage numbers are for city driving with my lheavy right foot, on the highway they are even better.
