Ok yeah I know,"That truck is weak!" However, it's my baby, and I want to lift her. I was thinking about simply putting on a Superlift 6" lift. The problem being that in the applications guide they list the kit for the ZR2 Variant. Question is, can I buy this kit and put it on my truck? Is it worth putting this kit on my truck or should I just go more a solid axle swap and put a Dana rear end in it as well? That would lower the center of gravity somewhat. Along with this lift, I need this truck to be functional all-around. I need to still be able to comfortably drive it from Virginia Tech to Southern Maryland at 65-70MPH without too much trouble. I have an automatic transmission at the moment but I am considering dropping it for a manual. However I was wondering, can I use the automatic transmission in combination with a "Texas Overdrive", in which I will take a manual transmission and attach it to the output of the automatic in which to create a lower range of gears for offroading? Is there a better way to do this and keep my automatic? I am also going to be adding a new high performance stiff shifting solenoid to this transmission over thanksgiving which should help it tremendously. Any advice or input aside from "Go buy a new "REAL" truck!" would be apprieciated.

Okay,
I will have to say NO on the Texas Overdrive. The best thing to do in that case is to buy a Gear Vendors overdrive unit that bolts to the back of your tranny. I believe it overdrives by 30% (ratio of 0.7:1), meaning that you can run gears 30% lower then normal. For example, lets say in order to maintain good highway MPG you have 33" tires and 3.73 gears. Well, if you had the GV Overdrive you could run 4.88 gears. All you would have to do is put the GV unit in regular drive (ratio of 1:1) and your good to go.

the 6" superlift will not fit a regular s10 (the ZR2 has a totally different frame). the only ifs lift for your truck would be the 4" trailmaster which is $$$ for what you get. you could cheap out and get a 3" body lift and crank your tbars an 1" or so

I thought superlift was making a regular s-series 6" now too. As I remember, it's really new. Though I don't pay too much attention as IFS sucks. Like mentioned, the difference between ZR2 and regular is the frames. This and any other questions along these lines would be better answered at www.s10-4x4.org Not saying you couldn't get answers here, but most won't want to answer you.

Many of these trucks used an electric-shift version of the NP231... the NP233C. Would be interesting to see if you could build a 4:1 NP231 for a GM application... maybe with Tera's kit?

I know a guy that used the tera 4:1 in a 96 ZR2. He figured he could swap the jeep 23 spline input for a 27 spline chevy input. Well, tera has a special input which isn't swapable with stock 231s. He ended up having to get a pricey Novak 4L60 to Jeep 231 adapter kit.

That Novak kit looks like its worth it.... considering it takes care of the VSS (something I forgot about when suggesting the 4:1.)

There's a link to the 6" non-ZR2 lift. A little more expensive than the Trailmaster 5", but seems like a better design. As far as IFS lifts go anyways.
