to swap your ten bolt over to 8 lug. Either that, or a 3/4 ton dana 44/ten bolt can probably be had for a fairly reasonable price. I assume you're wanting to match the lugs. If not, I'm way off base.

It is easier and cheaper to just buy new 8-lug wheels.

yeah i did that on my last truck ....

i have a 200 gmc 1500 and i do a lot of towing and in the dunes a lot (i know the front if is pretty much junk on the thing but thats just the way it goes) i need to to a ratio change so i was thing of converting the the rear to a 14 bolt while im at it.. not a fan of those 10 bolts for obvious reasons.. just wondering if anyone had any ideas.. best i can find is a kit for 1200 bones oh and grady's packed up shop and took a hike a little while back, heard he's working out of his garage but i cant locate him - if anyone knows let me know he would be the perfect source cause he's located pretty close to where in at..

anyway the 14 bolt is going in the truck one way or another just looking and asking if anyone had any other ideas..

thanks

why not just swap in a 14b sf if the only reason you need it is for towing?

i thought of that too, but by the time i add a rear disk kit to it and BUY the sf (best price i could find was about 600???) it will only be a couple hundred away from the ff conversion,,, i have the floater sitting in my yard,,, i dunno man ??? if i had the money i would buy a new damn truck, why i bought a 1500 is beyond me...

You could always just sell it and buy a 2500. They never made a 3/4 or 1-ton 71K5 so I had no option but to build one.

What year 14FF do you have? If it is an older one it will be too narrow. You might as well just get some adapters/spacers and turn down your existing hubs.

I know 2 guys in my club (www.scbd.org) are capable of doing them. I am sure there are many more guys on here or coloradok5.com that can do them.

Note: in this post he said he has 2 sets left.

He said he doesn't want to make a full set of hubs again...maybe he will do the spacers?

Swapping to 6 lug axles on a 14bsf has its own issues too, mainly due to the axles being longer from the outer bearing to the axle WMS flange. So you have to swap all the brakes from the 6 lug donor, or go with something like Black Widows disc brake convo for 6 lug 14bsf.

A buddy of mine who is a damn good welder/fab man says he wants to take my 10 bolt axles and cut off the WMS flange on a lathe just outside of the hub centric. Then do the same on my 8 lug 14bsf axles. He says after some work, he would mate the 10 bolt donor to the 14 axle. Seems like some work, yes, but it will eliminate alot of the problems known with using the later 6 lug 14bsf axles.

Anyone care to comment?

Thanks guys.

What's wrong with simply going with a 14 bolt SF with the drums. I know the drums are a little heavier, but they clamp a lot better than 1/2 ton 10 bolt stuff. I say keep it simple.

1) DO NOT DO THAT!!! YOU WILL END UP WITH A 14SF WEAKER THAN A 10B!!

2) Your welding/fab budy doesn't know what he is talking about. Don't ask his opinon about "matters of consequence" any more.

No worries, we are just going to redrill the axle flanges and drums for 6x5.5" pattern the time being. Later I might convert to discs.

How hard would it be to take all the 10 bolt disc brake system and maybe with a custom mounting bracket welded to the axle, mount it to the 14bolt sf?

take your 14bff hubs and machine them down to fit your wheel, redrill bolt pattern for 6 lug countersink4 holes for disc, voila, 6 lug big rotor 14bff. The axle flange becomes a safety retainer. works for me
