Hey ya'll, I feel odd posting in the newbie section, but I don't want to ask what a Front Dig is in the 'yota tech section, for fear of losing my head, or at least burning to a crisp :flipoff2:
Anyways, when referred to, it seems that we are talking about having the front tires up against a large obstacle and pulling up and out of it with the front wheels turned?
And to build off my question, why would cutting brakes and line locks help with this manouver?

Ok, Front dig is when you discconnect the rear (Via Transfer case shift lever), and pull your vehicle one way or another using only front wheel drive.
Most vehicles can't do this in stock form. Transfer case modifications are necessary. Locking one or both rear brakes (Via cutting or turning brakes)
can take natural advantage of the terrain to amplify or minimize the effect on the vehicle.

Borrow someones front wheel drive honda. Go out to a parking lot, pull on the emergency brake to lock the rear wheels, turn the steering wheel all the way to one side, and dump the clutch. The car will pivot on its locked rear wheels. That is a front dig. Very usefull for tight manouvers off road as long as your transfer case will allow you to disconnect the rear axle while in low range. Cutting brakes or line locks help to lock the wheels on the non driven axle. Yea you can do rear digs too, just lock the front brakes and disengage the front drive.
