What is it? A convertor? I think mine are in bad shape.

yea it's a cat. It still worked! I had no CEL/codes for cat efficiency, but It was loud as hell.

Mine were in the same shape after a wreck. Took some off a donor rover and they've been good since.

so...after you clean out all that crap, you're welding it back together and installing? :D

kidding..
we had really bad sounds from one cat six months ago...but all is well with two new free flowing ones..better sound too, but not quiet enough for elisa I think...oops!:D

you are replacing both cats...right? i always understood if you replacd one only and had mismatched back-pressure it was not a good thing

I don't think that Rover even thought about mismatched back-pressure. The difference between the two OEM cats in volume/shape is huge!

Do you have a part number or other identifier on the replacement cat?

I've got a noisy one and the local Muffler Geniuses can't find a suitable one in their books.

are you going to attempt to weld them in place of the original ones, or are you relocating them? I could not find anything to go in the same space as the skinny one (forget which side its on, DS, I think). This was also further complicated by the fact that the input is on top and the outlet on the bottom of the cat (or is it the other way around?)--all the aftermarket ones have both inlet and outlet centered. you would pretty much have to fab a new y-pipe, right?

Pics?

My mig is out of gas so there not welded yet, but there fitted and ready. My old y pipe works fine.

Your fitup looks good. You're losing a little bit of ground clearance with the centered outlet, but not much. That wasn't my problem, though. It looks like you have a lot more room between the driveshaft and framerail than my truck does.. Granted, when I was measuring I had an aftermarket front driveshaft on there, but still. What year is that Disco?

Nope on the ground clearence issue , it's just the camera angle. It's a 96.

Dam it has a rumble now! The WOT RPMs between 3-4K pick up much quicker now. :D
