: Who has towed their rigs with a Denali?
shelljeep 11-15-2005, 06:35 PM And what did you think of it?
I think my rig and trailer probably weigh about 5000-5500 pounds max, the Denali's tow capacity is 8400 pounds.
I'm looking at a 2001 Denali w/6.0L because it's a bad time to try to buy a diesel right now due to so many replacemants being bought for flooded Katrina/Rita trucks.
It's got almost 50k miles, in great shape, we'll start negotiations at $21,990.
That's more than $7k below bluebook for retail. It's actually just right below KBB trade-in value.
My wife and I are having another baby :) (That's 2 now), and she was considering a mini-van.:barf:
I would be unhappy writing a check every month for a minivan.
She saw this Denali today, and it's cush, and much cooler than a minivan.
The roads down here are pretty much flat anywhere I would tow it, and I wouldn't be making wheeling trips very often(mebbe once every 3 months) during the next year.
I'd be trading in my wore-out Dodge 250 for it, and buying another real towrig sometime later. This is kind of a stop-gap measure for a tow vehicle.
YJ4RoX 11-16-2005, 06:40 AM It should tow your jeep just fine.
My buddy towed his pig of a TJ with an escalade and its the same platform as the denali. The escalade towed the TJ great. Shoot his caddy even got 15mpg with the Tj on a 16' car hauler.
Being bascially the same vehicle I would say the denali would tow great.
shelljeep 11-16-2005, 07:18 AM Thanks man, think I'm goin' for it if he'll meet my price....:smokin:
CanuckJeeper 11-16-2005, 08:06 AM My Yukon had the 5.3L v8 and it was a PITA to tow my YJ on a flatbed.
I bought a F250. then a F350.

black jimmy 11-16-2005, 11:01 AM A friend of mine has borrowed his FIL's Denali XL to tow a Wrangler on rockwell's and 46's and has not complained about it. I'd say try it....
shelljeep 11-17-2005, 06:11 AM I bought it. I think it will be fine for the amount of tow trips it will see.
I've towed with a Fordsupercrew that had the 5.4L Triton, and a Dodge 250 with the 1st gen CTD.
Diesel is better for sure, but I think the 6.0L Denali did fine when I test-towed for an hour with it yesterday.
It has really good acceleration, but the brakes are kinda soft for that much trailer weight. I will be getting a trailer w/brakes for sure.
The factory airbags in the rear are cool. Leveled it right out.
YJ4RoX 11-17-2005, 06:23 AM thats what I forgot to mention, the bags on the caddy rocked. When my bud loaded his TJ we were like daaaamn that caddy is soft. Then he started it up and it leveled right out.
the 6.0l will have more than enough juice to pull your rig. Trailer brakes are a must however.
now you need some 20's on the denali:flipoff2: towing in style now:D you pimp

TasselsDesignLTD 11-20-2005, 10:25 PM I towed my samurai on a 16' flatbed for a little while with a Denali XL, it towed fine.
AZFord4x4 12-11-2005, 11:47 PM Not that I'd reccomend it for really long trips, or doing often, but I towed my F250/Trailer (about 8500 lbs) with my '05 Trailblazer in a pinch. Trailblazer has the 5.3 & 3.73 gears, & it suprised the hell outta me. Went up a 5% grade & it pulled about 55mph not even pushing it hard in 3rd gear. The trailer did try to push the Trailblazer around a little bit on the highway curves, but a little squeeze on the trailer brakes & it'd fall right back where it belonged. Trailblazer is rated to tow 7000lbs.

I do get a kick out of the size difference.

Sorry to bring up and old thread, but I can get a really good deal on an '03 Escalade and I'm seriously considering it. I don't tow often but when I do it's a Samurai on a 16ft tandem-axle w/both axles braking. There's no hills to speak of where I tow so long uphill grades aren't a concern.
ShellJeep, if you still visit this forum I'm just curious how the Denali is working out for you. Or if anyone else has some more wisdom that may not have been already covered.:D
shelljeep 04-02-2006, 07:49 PM Man, I'm tellin ya, I am totally happy with this Denali XL.
For a long time I thought I wanted an Excursion.
No more.
The Denali is way more cush inside, and you can't even compare the ride.
I just made a 900 mile roundtrip towing the jeep and it went great.
10 mpg at 70-75 mph the whole way. My Dodge CTD only got 14 towing.
My trailer's a 16 footer with brakes on both axles just like yours.
Prodigy controller rocks too.
6.0L had plenty of power to pass.
Transmision did fine too, towed in OD with the tow/haul button pressed, like the manual instructed.
No problem with the tranny, my tranny guy said it looked fine when he serviced it after I got back.
I was on mostly flatland, with some pretty good hills for the last 50 miles, but it would probably do alright with some bigger hills, longer grades. It seemed to have plenty of power to spare.

That's what I like to hear. Thanks for answering so quickly too.:D
slundste 04-03-2006, 10:42 PM My friend had a 02 or 03 Denali Truck with the quad steer, leather, etc. He pulled a 20 foot enclosed Millennium Trailer with a Cobra Kit car in it. He's not one to let off the right pedal but its a pretty light car/trailer combo (Only 3500lb axles) and he we reading 6mpg on his digital read out. Other than the poor mileage it pulls hard and rides like a caddy.
