: Mud or Rocks??
Mr McGee 03-20-2002, 03:29 PM I know this board is mostly geared towards hardcore rock crawling, but i think *some* of us are into mud too???
Personally, i am--its soo cool just burnin through a mud pit :D :rasta: :smokin:
BTW Woody, you dont have to tell me your opinon--I think i got the hint :D :D
chevota01 03-20-2002, 03:39 PM After 15 years of four wheeling -- fauk mud:flipoff2:
DCruiser138 03-20-2002, 04:03 PM mud can kiss my ass..hehe. its a bitch! plus i like the techinical, line piking aspect on rocks. whatever...:rasta:
morgan 03-20-2002, 04:05 PM I played in mud a couple times and I'm still finding adobe under the truck. I hate cleaning that shit almost as much as I hate rust.
Did get a pressure washer after one muddy trip tho. :)
Morgan
Mr McGee 03-20-2002, 04:06 PM just wait a couple hours, ill show you some line pickin.....:rasta:
Mr McGee 03-20-2002, 04:10 PM hey dustin, i just realized something.....
YOU WON A HY-STEER ARM YOU BASTARD:flipoff2:
sorry, i had to say it--looks like im gonna have a "Lincoln" brand high steer arm:D :flipoff2: :D :rasta:
-Max
DCruiser138 03-20-2002, 04:15 PM i sure did..took me a month to realise it though..then i finnaly collected my prize..and sold em:rasta: . hehe...im happy w/ my x-over.
Advent Horizon 03-20-2002, 05:48 PM What about trail riding? I mean, I hate taking my rig in mud 'cause it'll plug everything up, and there's no rocks around here...I like to ride the trails and play in the sand!
And snow. Snow's good too (we just got 28.7" 3 days ago :-))
nuclearlemon 03-20-2002, 06:01 PM sorry guys, as much as i enjoy the rockcrawling, i love to goof off in the mud too...it's kinda like doing doughnuts in the parking lot. as for washing it...that's what the rain is for.
Mr McGee 03-20-2002, 06:58 PM Yeah, i definately love trail riding too....thats how i started out!! brain fart for not putting it on there.
Peabody 03-20-2002, 07:55 PM screw mud, to much of a pain to clean up. nothing like that crawling pucker factor! :D
orangefj45 03-20-2002, 08:01 PM easy there all y'all pretty boys! you gotsta pay to play, remember?!
personally, i love mud and i have a hard time resisting it. nothing like putting your foot down and then feathering the throttle to keep the needle right around 6K or so.
don't get me wrong, i did rocks just the same but every once in a while you just have to burry the pedal!:D
Guangie 03-20-2002, 08:46 PM It must be nice to live where you have a choice? In Western Washington if you want to play on rocks ya gotta go through the mud. Unless you travel over to Eastern Washington.
ranger 03-20-2002, 09:06 PM Mud was fun to start with, but it got boring after awhile. I spent two years mudding in the Georgia swamps, and that muck was nasty! Plus it was a PITA to clean uo afterwards....Preventitive maintenace is a continual job cause water and mud get into everything...bearings, trannys, axles housings,etc...........
To me rocks are a bigger challange... But to each his/her own....:skull:
Reddog 03-20-2002, 09:07 PM I live in snow.....it sucks
Mud is for kids, I haven't played in mud for maybe 40 years.....
Rocks are the shit ! Can't say enough about rocks, rocks are cool, and the best rocks are in beautiful places.....that makes rocks a beautiful thing .
Yeah, definitly rocks, rocks rock !
rustycruiser 03-20-2002, 09:29 PM Mud=:rainbow:
Mud was cool when I was 16. Now it is too much of a PITA to clean. Gets in your rear drums (I know, I know:flipoff2: ), gets into every crack and crevice. Mud Blows. Now big ass rocks covered in slimey mud=North-East wheeling. Only mud I like.
Ross
RustyNailJustin 03-20-2002, 09:36 PM When I was in high school it was ok but now its LAME!!!
60seriesguy 03-20-2002, 10:21 PM We've *all* played in mud, but I think once you get into rocks, it's tough to go back. My worst beef with mud is the @#$%& clean-up, too much of a pain...besides, my first 15+ years of wheeling were in that oily, red clay mud that covers all of South America like snot. I still have nightmares of loaded Cruisers stuck for *days* at a time...
Forget it, I'm with Brian Swearingen, I HATE MUD!!
Advent Horizon 03-20-2002, 10:41 PM You guys need to come up here to Alaska...There's trails up here that RAWK! Seriously, I think the only reason I enjoy living up here is getting out in the scenery...And sometimes, I know you'll hate me for this, but sometime's it's actually better to get off whatever machine you're riding on/in and go off on a hike :) :) :)
DCruiser138 03-20-2002, 10:49 PM yes snow...snow is fun..shoulda been on the poll. even w/o a v-8..or any hp for that matter..its fun. much less messy!
Bob B 03-20-2002, 11:32 PM Where I live in Miss. is just past NoWhere. There is no snow sand or rocks. Only Goohy Sticky Gumbo Mud. and trail riding
So I guess I will choose Trailin. If that gumbo dries you have to chip it out.:mad2: :mad2:
green73 03-21-2002, 04:04 AM I just like Wheeling! Any chance to get away from work. I do hate cleaning up after Mud though. Dragoneater, what trails do you run up here? Knik? PM me, gonna have to trail ride sometime. Bob B where are you in Miss?
rabid 03-21-2002, 05:08 AM I've gotta agree that the best mud is the crap that covers the rocks on most of the trails in the east. There are some trails that are mostly rock, and they are great, but for me, the mix of everything that the NE trails have (where the trails are still open:mad: ) is pretty great. Makes it tough, and every line is different from one truck to the next.
Plus my cruiser is way too heavy to play in the mud. sinks like a rock.
Damn Henry I wish I could find the pic of your truck here in that big-ass hole on the Fall Gathering run. At least it got further than mine!:D :D
woody 03-21-2002, 05:33 AM :flipoff2:
Is it that obvious??? :D
BigRedFJ40 03-21-2002, 06:11 AM I'll have to agree with Rabid on this. Up here in the North East, even our "rock" trails have mud. It makes things really interesting going from a mud hole to a rock with wet slippery swampers........ I agree that cleaning the mud outta the truck sucks but, it still adds to the challange of the trails....
WOLF359 03-21-2002, 11:23 AM I voted both in the poll, because I love the technical challange of rocks, but up here... we have lot's and lot's of mud.
That's why we run the big tires. It's kind of hard to get to the challanging stuff without going through the mud.
Stupid frnch jackasS 03-21-2002, 11:45 AM Ok, here we don't have rocks, but lotsa mud...
If we want to play, we have to do it in mud, so we do it...
Btw, what are "rocks" ? Never heard of that thing...:emb:
Mr McGee 03-21-2002, 03:09 PM Who voted "mines gonna stay on the street"? If a cruiser stays on the street, THEN IT ISNT A CRUISER!!
Im gonna scan some pics of me muddin, will post them soon.
-Max
BJ On Roids 03-21-2002, 03:25 PM we gotta do muddin trail ridin, beach driving and sand stuff, all just to get to the rocks (if you make it)
the only thing we dont got is snow.......damn, i WANT some
down south they get some, but not right up here
wel got hill climbs, and all sorts of events
soon to be a big rockcrawling one coming in july im told, should be fun
SpaceGhost 03-21-2002, 04:45 PM Mud is the pits! I avoid it when possible, at least in pit/bog form. Many of the trails we run are woodsie with rock formations, can't always be avoided.
I don't mind getting a little on me, or the interior of my new tow rig. It's the hour at the car wash or in the driveway with the power washer that is just too much work for me.
Call me lazy, but as soon as I find a slide in camper that meets my needs and allows for the spares, screw tents and campsites too!
Let's wheel!
Mr McGee 03-21-2002, 04:54 PM ok, the first one is of a j**p....but it does have a chev 350 in it:D
No j**p bashin cause they are our friends and are pretty cool people...we are the only cruiser in the group; oh well:rasta:
Heres the most capable rig in the group (the girl was on the passenger side when they went through a mud hole[huge]) the last pic will be of me in the mud hole....
heres pic one:

Mr McGee 03-21-2002, 04:55 PM I SWEAR TO GOD IM GOING TO KILL TRIPOD!!!!!!
Cruzilla 03-21-2002, 05:58 PM Rocks are where it's at!!
Mud is ok but way to much of a pain in the butt to get off, not to mention spendy, or the pain of trying to sneak into the car wash to get it off!( round here they get kinda testy if they catch you with lot's of mud in the car wash.)
Mr McGee 03-21-2002, 06:04 PM ok, so tripod can lick my taint.....heres some images hosted by VILLAGE PHOTOS.COM!!!!!
Heres that first one i promised....
http://www.villagephotos.com/pubimage.asp?id_=173880
Mr McGee 03-21-2002, 06:07 PM 1. the first j**p is painted like grey, purple....lots of colors(custom paint job) notice how its brown? Same with mine in the last pic (its a faded yellow)
2. Sorry about photo quality....i can only upload small (lo res) pics till i start payin up!:D
Heres a poser mud shot:
http://www.villagephotos.com/pubimage.asp?id_=173881
Mr McGee 03-21-2002, 06:09 PM I saved the BEST MUD SHOT for last (yeah, thats me drivin...JUST BEFORE MY 15TH BIRTHDAY!!!:rasta: :smokin: :D )
http://www.villagephotos.com/pubimage.asp?id_=173882
VA.CRUISER 03-21-2002, 07:47 PM I personnally don't know of any rocks to play on around me. So i have only played in mud and on some local logging paths. I know not very extreme wheeling but all i have seen so far!! :rasta:
orangefj45 03-21-2002, 08:39 PM "mud sucks" and "i hate the clean-up" sounds to me like a sure clue that you guys are gettin' damn old!
live a little!!!!!:flipoff2:
anyways, to each his own. i do like to wheel in all kinds of different terrain, that's probably why we drive for days just to go wheelin'?!:rasta:
it's a guy thing.;)
swamppig 03-21-2002, 08:49 PM hey guangie i gotta agree with you, i havent seen any of these "rock" things around here. I think they must be all the mud dried up into chuncks.... i really hate mud... am thats all i have! washington sucks!!! I really want to try some realy rock stuff. maybe i will make a trip south. I was just kidding about the mud, it can be fun but the clean up sucks!!!! i gave up on plugging to keep it out of cab, cab is carpeted in mud\moss until i get around to scrapping it out. What i really like are the wet muddy kinda rocky hillclimbs... those are fun.
ben
bluethunder 03-22-2002, 05:33 AM My vote is for both! Here in NC we have trails like Tellico with some extreme rocks, however they are covered by mud. I think mud makes a good trails better because it can make for some very interesting situations.
-Jonathan
Mr McGee 03-22-2002, 01:28 PM so did my fotos change anybody's mind about mud???
two problems w/mud....
1. The j**p that is coated with has a V8...and with mud on the rad. he gets kinda hot....
2. cleanup: all you need for cleanup is a good power washer; it only takes me like a half hour to get it cleaned up.
BUT DOESNT THE LAST ONE LOOK LIKE FUN?????:D
